Free email marketing tip...

Don't think of your email list as a large or small group of people, think of it as a single entity. When you write your email messages, write as if you were writing to only ONE person (friend to friend) and that way you will come across as a more personable kind of marketer.

Never start your messages with 'Hi EVERYONE'.

Your list members want to feel like they're the only one getting that message, because it makes them feel better. (I still do it myself).

    Onwards and upwards

Yes this is very important. People like someone they can relate to. It is also a good idea to first introduce yourself to your list, and as you said, speak to them by their name.

Welcome to DP forums. But may I suggest that you please introduce yourself in the 'Introductions' Thread:
    http://forums.digitalpoint.com/forumdisplay.php?f=2
As this is not the introduction thread.

    Good point Ray.
It's very important to be personable.
I get a lot of emails from marketers who just constantly promote products.
Every single email is a promotion!
The mailing lists I stay on are from marketers who offer tips and techniques without constantly promoting something.
There's more value in those campaigns.

yes, not saying "hi everyone" is good, but after you write an email message, read it twice to ensure that you're not using any names of companies you are writting too. It would be much worse to send same message to all addresses with their rival name in message.

A VERY good point minisitepro! It should not be always SELL SELL SELL. We must provide Value FIRST. The days of selling first are gone.
I immediately unsubscribe from a list that SELLS SELLS SELLS. You can't do that now.

Sure, introduce related products/sell after you have provided VALUE!

Fantastic tip Ray, thanks for sharing. I too find it works much better to personalize your messages to each individual on your list. Thankfully some of the top auto-responders will help make this process easier.
