My personal preference are - Kaspersky Internet Security + Sunbelt CounterSpy for real time protection. I have also used Spybot S&D and MalwareBytes for on-demand scan.

Kaspersky is one of the best (top 2-3), I love it, but for servers it's a real overload.

Right now im using AVG. Why because I got a license key for cheap, no other reason. I used Kaspersky before and would recommend it to everyone however to this day Avira is my favourite, best of all? it's free!

Mcafee? After what happened a couple of weeks back?

I personally use ESET Internet Security on 3 PC's, and it has been working great on all 3!

I have never used an anti-virus software.. EVER.. I've never had any issues either, but you obviously have to watch where you download from.. I've switched to the mac platform, and I still don't use an anti-virus.. all it does it take up your memory.. especially Norton =O..

My computer was attacked by some unknown virus even I use Kaspersky, so I think you are right. The anti-virus software maybe useless when we encounter real strong virus. It is better to leave it go.

Smart Security and Nod32 from ESET has been working flawlessly since I begun concerning about being protected. No problems so far with minimum load on the computer and easy to use interface. Advanced options and settings is available for users but I have never been in a situation where I needed to change the default settings. Pretty cool Uh :)

I have tried almost all of the above security programs (just for sport) and one of the really good ones according to others crashed my computer several times without being able to logg windows. So the situation for many I believe is a trial and error test before finding a solution that works.
