    Hey guys,

    I have a question:

Are the backlinks from domain.com considered www,domain.com 's backlinks?

Thanks a lot for any sugestions or ideas!

If you want to build backlinks to your site, you need to choose either "with www" or "without www". Because this will produce different results at major search engines such as Google.

Backlinks to domain.com may not necessarily count as backlinks to www,domain.com, and the general opinion seems to be that this difference will affect the passing of Page Rank. These are actually two different addresses, so for SEO you need to pick one and stick with it in all of your link building. There is an option in Google's webmaster tools that allows you to select the preferred address - it's in the settings tab for your site.

You should also permanently redirect the version that you choose NOT to use to the version that you choose to use (it doesn't matter which you pick, www or non-www, just pick one or the other). Do a Google search for "redirect www non-www rewritecond http_host" and you will find exactly how to do this - and explained fairly clearly.

    Hey himanuzo,

    Thanks for the answer

I did choose www version, but when i was first promote my blog, i didn't know anything yet :( so i used non-www. Thats why this non www blog has more backlinks than my www (which i changed about a month ago)

    Hey telesto,

Thanks for this useful info :) I should have wrote that this is a subdomain and not a domain, thats why there is no way i can change "the preferred domain address" in webmaster tool

But i use wordpress in this blog, so it's already redirected to www.

So, is this non-www backlinks considered www's in my case?

ONLY if you're making "transparent" redirect from one version to the other ( non-www to www or vice versa ).
If this is not the case your link profiles will differ, which is simply messy. Do make yourself a redirect in the way your webserver lets you do it.

I personally go with the www version. You need to go in to webmaster central tools and canonicalise your URL. This way you'll be directing all of the links to one domain and you won't have any duplicate content issues. This wouldn't lead to huge duplicate content issues but could lead to your site stagnating in the SERPS.

if you do 301 redirect, then there are no differ from www. and non-www.

so you'd better redirect non-www to www ..

    Hi, KimiGermany

In my own experiences, they would be treated as different backlinks for different domains if you have not set up a 301 redirection from one form to the another in your .htaccess file.

    Have a nice day,

    Hey AirForce1,

Thanks for your message :D I don't redirect from .htaccess because i use wordpress, in wordpress just simply change the URL to www, it will redirect automatically :D

    Cheers!

Its good if you have done the redirect from the day one. Also remember to maintain the same url with or without 'www' when you try to get some backlinks like link exchanges or submit the url to some directories or submission sites. Make sure each and every time you use the same url while you are working on your link development methods.

It is good that you have done redirect already. However, if you had done properly then your website should being shown for one version, especially for backlinks. If the backlinks are still splitted into two version (non-www / www) then it may have something wrong is going on. Are you sure that redirect you made was 301 redirect? You cannot just simple any type of redirect since only 301 can transfer link and authurity from one version to another one version, otherwise cannot doing it. :)

I would recommend to reading this source if you are not sure about it - 301 Redirects and www/non-www Canonical Problems. <-- This one answer for both www-->non-www and non-www-->www. Hope this help.

    Hey Sxperm :D

When i type link://mydomain.com and link://www.mydomain.com, they show same amount of result. I have read the article you have recommended, and i am confused because when i typed: site:http://mydomain.com, the result will show both www and non www. However if i add those codes in my .htaccess , the non www version will all land to index.php. And i have read this thread: http://wordpress.org/support/topic/368335
So i am a bit confused now :(

    Thanks!
