What sort of server specs would I need for this site?

I am currently hosting a site on Dreamhost which is of course very limited.

Site has shot up and now is running out of room to breathe in Dreamhost with constant load issues, 404 and 403 errors for no reason and just general slowness.

Basically looking for opinons on what sort of dedicated/vps server specs I would need to be able to host the site comfortably

Also looking for advice on what OS to use and what sort of techinques I should be using to host the site more stable

Site currently generates about 3,000,000 requests a day with 120,000 uniques

It also uses up about 42 GB of bandwith a day

Disk space isn't an issue as it only has used up 1GB

Site is increasing in popularity (and therefor increasing the requests and bandwith) every day and doesnt show signs of stopping anytime soon.

It runs 1 site on 1 domain, no subdomains. It runs wordpress with the wp-super-cache turned on so it basically just servers the static pages that wp-super-cache makes, but every now and then the pages are deleted in the cache or I manually delete the cache when I do any sort of template changes

Basically that is it, I can provide more info if needed, just looking for a general server spec needed to run it comfortably, also any advice on things like OS, software to make it run better and smoother etc.

    Help is greatly appreciated

If it's currently running on a dreamhost shared environment and they haven't shut it down yet I don't see any reason why it wouldn't run on a high end VPS. Your main criteria is bandwidth since you're using up more than 1 TB a month. Check out some of the high end vps at servint.com. You can get a vps running raid 10, 15k sas drives, 2 gigs gauranteed ram (4 gigs burst), and 2 TB of bandwidth a month for $129. Servint, hands down one of the best VPS providers in the industry. Run it with lightspeed (litespeedtech.com) and you'll be good to go.

I am confused ... can you give stats and stats only

shared hosting can not handle what you said above.

also what kind of site is it only html or a complex one with MySQL and everything

Site is only a month old and currently because it is Dreamhost, it doesn't have as many stats as I would like. All I have access to is the requests a day and log stuff

Basically I am just looking for suggestions on what sort of infrastructure and server I would need to host it without too many problems

As I said, it runs Wordpress with wp-super-cache, so yes it does run MySQL and PHP, but as I said, wp-super-cache saves static html files and serves them

I think you need low end dedicated server or at least high end VPS. You have good amount of visitors and that can cause heavy CPU load.

I'm surprised that Dreamhost let you run these sort of figures on a shared hosting account. Don't be so sure that a low-end VPS would be sufficient as there's a good chance the shared hosting server being used at Dreamhost is a very high-end server that lets you achieve this level of visitors while sharing resources with lots of other web sites. A low-end VPS might struggle to cope.

Webintellects-Rob is correct. A high-end VPS or a dedicated server may be the most sensible options.

I will probably start off with a VPS that way I can adjust the resources on it to suit and because it is also lower cost

I believe you need VPS. It seems the best option to get started with.

I am surprised they haven't shut you down .... You must be getting tons of "Internal server error" due to their resource usage limits.

I would say go with a Mid End Managed VPS provider as with that kind of growth in just one month, you do need dedicated resources. (Not dedicated server) Go with a vps provider that can upgrade you without an issue if you need more RAM or Bandwidth.
Of the top of my head, I can recommend WiredTree, FutureHosting and KnownHost ... I have used all of them and I am really happy.
