Someone wrote that "consistent new content" is good for SEO. Explain.

Is changing a page or adding to it the same as creating a new page on the site?

If I have one-page sites with several hundred words each, will it help to go edit / add to those pages after a year or so of no changes?

As for ongoing strategy, what does "consistent new content" mean, for SEO?

no what i have noticed with one of my competitors is that they created a WP blog and use it as a website, used a plugin so when they post a new thread the excerpt appears on the home page, this way Google then updates your site and it appears as though the home page has had new content on it - it is just manipulation of Google.

Can you point me to that site (PM me if you wish)? I might want to try that on a site.

I keep reading how people say blogs are effective. Are they more SEO effective than building a traditional site? If I were to use WP, would I just point my domain to the WP blog or should I have a beginning html page and link to the blog from there?

Livemusic, Google values new-page-content most, and not that much of changing of an old pages, since its very easy for webmaster to play with (randomly) changing content on old pages by just php-fetching of new data from database every day in an automated way.

What should I do with 2 year old 1-page sites that helped me get on page 1 for some good keywords... and these pages need to be updated. The content is 2 years old and I need to re-write some paragraphs... just generally edit the page to make it more relevant to today. Should I edit the page or what? One, in particular is pretty important to me for my niche.

livemusic, of course you should edit your main-traffic-bringing page and add better an unique content to it.
From another side, keep on adding new pages to your website, with the content on similar niche.

Both of these tactics will definitely help in increasing the total trustworthiness of your website and as a result: improve your traffic to the old mainpage, and get visitors to new pages.

Surely doesn't hurt and Google loves it. How can it be wrong? :)
    Just do it.

I sure hope that they meant blogging by adding new content. Blogging is no doubt the best SEO strategy to get crawled by SE spiders and yes, Google does like fresh content. Sites with blogs gets more crawled by spiders as compare to sites without blogs and without any updates. (it depends how frequent the blog is being updated with fresh content)

    Good luck,

Not necessarily, any website types will profit from new consistent content

I do not think so. The best, in my opinion, are unique news together with analytical materials published on a website daily.
