I am thinking to buy 1TB HDD Mainly for storing movies, games etc, no office use and no real need of serious back up or data protection Well, I am stuck between two products http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.asp?driveid=466 http://www.seagate.com/www/en-us/products/external/freeagent/freeagent_desk/ No other options pls, for some reasons I have to choose anyone between them Does anyone have any experience with any of them ? Pls share or suggest. Thanks.
I am using Seagate for about 3 years and it's really nice. Western digital also good, but i like to use seagate. But it's up to you man.
Thanks for reply I have one question if anyone can answer The WD My Book has two separate HDD inside, can they be used as internal HDD ? if anyone has that pls answer. Thanks.
I take for seagate, once I have use WD but the device it broken,.. pin No.1, I don't know why,it's take to me 1 month to get my data back after I put again together..
+1 for Seagate. I lost data (in the 90s) on a WD drive, and have never really forgiven them for it. I've bought Seagates ever since. My Seagates are all still going - some are 10 years+ old.
I checked google, 70-80% is voting for WD however, i decided to go with WD in 2-3 days unless someone says any serious experience to change my mind @Kerosene do u have the drive ? i know how to get back data Thanks a lot guys for wasting your time to reply here, appreciate it.
This was in the mid/late 90s. I still have the drive somewhere - the data on it is long gone, and would no longer be of any value anyway. Just out of interest, how would you get the data back?
1) By hot-wiring it with PC, i know how to open case and attach with pata/ata cable 2) Then using software to recover by bit chunk process
I would recommend Western Digital if you want to protect your data with Password protection and 256 bit Encryption. It also comes with 3 years warranty. If you want lots of Disk space at cheap price then I suggest Seaget 1TB hard disk.
I use an Internal WD green HDD in a external drive enclosure (transcend) with cooling fan. in this way the drive runs cooler and the probability of failing will be less. especially in hot country like India
Both External HDD are good, just see the specs of those two External HDD; Seagate or Western Digital that fits what you need
Ok Guys I bought Western Digital My Book Essential and doing super fine till now thanks for your precious comments
Seagate is reliable then WD i am using Seagate from past 10+ years and i am not facing a single problem
I use Seagate External HDD 500Gb Free Agent, hmmm... then good luck for using your new Western Digital HDD... if some problem occur when using you External HDD, just contact the shop for that.
Based on my experience, I suggest the Western Digital. Never had problems with Western Digital before. I've had 2 broken Seagate in the past.
