well you must be tired of answering usch q's but please help me. ... i dont have the money to buy the vBulletin 4.0 software , so i decied it should be either PHPbb3 or SMF 2. 0 . which one would you think is better .....here is wat i know till now .

    PhPbb :-

    ~ looks great
~ seems to be hacked often
    ~ good admin control
    ~ other features like ratings
~ tons of templates and mods

    SMF:-

this contains almost all of the above but reagarding security , is it safe enough to go with PHPBB3 ?

if you are limited to these 2 options give SMF a try... if you are open to options try mybb

phpBB is safe, the boards you may see that get hacked are either due to malicious code added by the admins or unsafe mods.

stick with version 1.1.11 as the 2.x series is still in beta.
    stable beats beta any day.

The guys at phpbb have been working really hard to make their software more secure. Support they provide on their community is excellent.

justify it , you can literally find 100s of sites claiming to hack a Phpbb3 forum where as NO site in the whole of www claims to have hacked SMF . see it for yourself

There also many big boards using phpbb and arent actually hacked.. security also depends on what mods you use etc

I agree. It depends more on the custom codes or stupid mods that many webmasters install. Also it is essential to always keep your site updated with the latest software version irrespective of what forum script you use.

I can't think of a single reason why anyone would want to use phpBB when MyBB (SMF, even) has so many more features.

phpBB's security has improved immensely, however its ease of management has not. SMF runs circles around MyBB and phpBB in that regard.

At least a child can spell "you".

phpBB is the most hackable forum system, and it lacks features. Why would anyone use it?
