I presume you're trying to rank for the term "red dog" ?

If that's the case then red-dog.com will do just fine, you'll get a nice SEO boost for the keyword domain although not as much as if you had reddog.com or even reddog.net or reddog.org.

My suggestion is red-dog.com, it is better than other two from seo point of view...... and also it is easily readable to get your key term.

It has nothing to do with a red dog, it is just a made-up example.

And with regard to your answer, it makes we wish I had posed the original question as this:

    Which is best for SEO?

    red-dog.com
myreddog.com (or another word appended in front of key phrase)
reddoginfo.com (or another word appended at end of key phrase)
reddog.net (or .org or .us, etc.)

Can we get a categorical answer on whether hyphens are bad or not?

I was going to buy three domains today, ALL with hyphens in, and now I'm concerned! :)

Surely, they MUST be OK in Google?

i think you want to clear about hypen(-),,and any thing more. But If Domain is available without hypen then it is better.

From the point of SEO, it is obvious that red-dog.com is the best domain name for you.

red-dog.com is more SEO friendly as your site is more likely to show up in SERPs for the terms "red", "dog" as well as "red dog". However, hyphens are not user-friendly and your domain name is quite short anyways. I say go for reddoginfo.com

Domains with hyphens are easy to get ranked (if they are generic and keyword rich), but they are difficult to be told over a telephone (to clients or customers; in case you have a business website running under that domain). So, if you are looking to get a domain for a business purpose, I suggest NOT to go for HYPHENS in domains. But if you are just getting a domain for personal or social use, than it's OK.... You can add as many hyphens as you can handle... Enjoy and good luck.

My original post was related to SEO, so, a hyphen is not burdensome. There are so many differing opinions!
