    Hello,

Can someone please help me! I am under the suspicion that google is not getting the proper 404 error page that has been created for my site. Can someone please tell me how I can tell if google is seeing a proper custom 404 error page. Thank you. Is there any tools online that can tell me what google see's when it crawls my site to see if it gives a proper 404 error page. I currently have a custom 404 error page.

had you tried linking your site to google webmaster tools?

there are site analysis about your site, you can see if there are some unreachable links.

    hope this answers you.

You can get it done via Google Webmaster Tools. You will see every error occur on your website with details, including 404 / 403 or others.

This is not what I am asking. Is there a tool I can use to see if google is getting a 404 error from my pages that are a 404. I made a custom 404 error page and I need to make sure google see's this has a 404 error page and not a 200 code. Can someone please give me maybe a live http header tool to see if my page gives out a 404 error code instead of a 200.

    Hello Guys,

Yes, this is my question. Someone is linking to my site without the .htm extension of the url. It is showing under webmaster tools 404 error pages but pages do not exist on my site without the .htm extension. So, some 4 directories are putting links to my site without the .htm and these links are showing under my google webmaster tools. The pages do not exist and never existed. People are linking to my site with pages that do not exist and this is showing in my google webmaster tools as 404 pages. What I don't understand is why is google evening showing me this 404 error page if this page never existed on my site to begin with. It is another site linking to my site with the incorrect url's, they are missing the .htm at the end of the url linking to my site.

So, I am wondering if my site is giving google an incorrect 404 error code. I need to check if google is getting a correct 404 error code from my site. I have a custom 404 error code page and need to verify if this is done correctly.
