I have a feeling that we'll be looking back in a few years and thinking..'how could we ever have thought that THAT domain would NOT be worth big bucks.' :)

When a year or so comes around and your renewals get close, how are you guys going to decide whether to renew and wait longer to sell, sell it quickly before renewal, or to keep it and monetize it yourself?

I've got a good 50 domains that I am nervous about next years renewal fee's.

It's not clear whether or not 3D will take off within a year.

Now isn't the time to sell?? You should look into what everyone is saying.. hold onto your 3D domains, the value will go up tremendously.

    Just regged used3dgames.net , 3dtvmonitor.net , best3dshows.com , 3dhdtvmonitor.com

I honestly was pretty astonished with all these domainers in the market, those didn't get picked up LONG ago. Even as a .net that's money in the pocket when they hype gets big. (speculatively speaking of course :) )

Goes to show you that there is plenty still available. If only those were .coms that used3dgames one would be a gold mine.

BTW, I thought you guys might find it interesting that JAMES CAMERON the producer of the best selling movie in the world (Avatar which was absolutely amazing in 3D) said that every movie he plans to do in the future will be in 3D.

I pickup up best3dshows.com in case shows get in on the action as well.

As I mentioned a few days ago, I sold 2 domain names for $1000 EACH. Well... the money is in my account for one of the names, so I will reveal it at 9pm EST as planned. Stay tuned....
If this was $250.00 I would have mentioned it right away. $1000 is ALOT of money in these very rough economic times, so I just took precautions. I hope you understand.

this seems to be one of the biggest knocks against someone like me who has regged a lot of names in this market... "what r u going to do when it comes time to renew these names??!!"
... to me, it's quite simple...
    .. PLAN FOR IT!!

I agree that this may not be ready by next year, and most likely, for optimal return, probably two more years from this point...
what i mean by 'optimal return' is that TWO things need to happen first
    1) - 3d needs to go glasses-free, which as you may all already know, is in the works (and already in existance - flawed, but closer)
    2) - 3d goes live on the web

THAT'S when this whole 3d industry REALLY turns the corner.
    PLAN FOR YOUR RENEWALS.

WHY NOT look at this as a business? .. plan a monthly overhead and pay yourself as if it were a business cost or any other bill associated with a business. Put that money away until next year and the hit will be minimal. Monetize a few sites to reduce some of your monthly overhead.. whether PPC or affiliates, even if you only bring in a total of $300 for the year, it's still $300 less you'll have to pay next year... it's still worth the gamble if you're smart from the outset... IMO, anyway

That question can never really be answered Jack ... we see people coming in this thread (and other non-3d threads) that ask this question... and there is never really an answer... probably because it can't be answered... there is no 'price guide' for domains.. and even the ones that call themselves seasoned domainers can still only speculate... and as we know, many of those have already speculated that the 3d domain market is not even worth touching because, as you may have heard a HUNDRED times over on this thread (and all the others) .."ALL the good 3d names are long gone!" .. so what do they know.

All you can do is try to develop and make your own worth... or hope someone else see's your name to be as valuable as you - that's the only place your going to find your true number.

You can try to use history as a guide, but even then, history is nothing more than a bystander.
I may have mentioned this example here before, but take '3dSexy.com'

that actual domain name sold for $1,000 in December of 2008 only to be sold for almost a 50% LOSS in March of this year at $560
One would have 'thought', 'imagined' or 'speculated' that that name would have sold for AT LEAST, the same $1,000 that was spent originally due to historic sales
.. but it just didn't work out that way.

Just to have it fresh for everybody, here is a list of all the reported 3d sales in the past:
    http://www.domaintools.com/domain-sales-history/?q=3d

    - - - - --

    NICE JOB Go3d!!!
... make the rest of us proud!!!

Looking forward to seeing what you have sold.

Good luck on all your others :)

I think it is a nice name... if you want to sell it I can pay $99. Not saying it is not worth more... I just have bills to pay and renew my own names as well.

yep some people will make a nice killing on some domains now but tbh i dont think that will be many of us untill 3d is totally mainstream then i probably wont sell anything unless its a good offer
for me renewing is easy i earn cash on the net from affilaites etc which fund my domains and hosting i cant remember the last time i actually paid for my all my hosting a lot of 3d domains i have bought out my own pocket but all renew fees will come from this and i will probably gauge on market trends and tech advances between now and then whether to keep or sell.
i think a lot of the sales thats happening right now is actually 3d domainers buying what they think will be big soon
i do have a few domains which i am due to register for a 10 year period as i know i will have to hold for at least 2-3 years
trying to get an appraisal on a 3d domain is pointless i do it for amusement.

go3d you need to tell us man its like watching a soap lol
we all have to wait untill the next episode untill we find out

    damm i hate soaps !

Buy3DPC . com SOLD $1000 ($900 is in my Paypal account as SEDO takes 10%)
I am VERY happy. I Purchased 60 days ago for $7.95.
To be continued... as I will reveal the other domain name I sold for another $1000 once the money is in my account.
Like I said and someone else mentioned before... this is very good news for all of us!!!! This is a great domain name, and if the purchaser develops it,
it will be even better news for us.
    Your Thoughts????

This opens the door for additional .com domain names example: buyused3dgames.com (yes it is long but a great name... better than a shorter .net as this can get type-in traffic). It is available by the way...
You can think of other GREAT names that are taken, then just put buy in front. (this would only seem to work in my opinion if the item is actually in 3d) MANY are taken... but even more are available. Good Luck.

Sounds like you and I started purchasing domains at the same time. So many 3D names were available when I started, but I was on somewhat of a budget, pretty new to it all, and really did not know which direction to go with. I actually owned names like Counselor 3d .com, and GetALoan3d . com. I just looked at high traffic names more than the technology that stood behind them. I read about the web going 3D, thinking that any website could be in 3D, therefore any and all names would be useful with 3D in them. I sure hope this pays off in the end as I have invested a lot of money in purchasing the names and then renewing them.

Great domain. I think 3dcomputer.net would be better than 3dcomputers.net
