The .US registry, in partnership with Vendare Media, has quietly rolled out a local information network based on zip codes, that includes every single American zip code in the .US extension. Check any zip code, for example, beverly hills, 90210.us, and you will see what they have started doing. More local content will be added to the sites and the registry expects the network to dramatically increase .US recognition. The registry had reserved all 5-number domains from the beginning, so they owned the complete set when the deal was struck with Vendare to handle the development

I am in the us, I have never typed in or purposely gone to a .us site. Not from an SEO standpoint, from as a US surfer, I simply don't go to them. Nor would I ever consider a .us domain an authority.

So, I don't personally own any nor can I think of any .us site that I visit. So in answer to the question, yes it does matter in the US.

I would not buy a .us domain and I have seen many with content I liked, but no interest because of the domain.

    That is just my opinion.

It's hard to get a doctcom so domain .. so us and eu will win some ground soon .. and I do think that in a near future they will on the same level with dot com , dot net ... at least on the same level with dotnet domains.

i always put .us with .info which is the least favorite and doesn't seem like a real domain to me. Like a cheap extension

You obviously haven't seen some of the .info sales on DNJ then.

I just purchased a .us domain because I couldn't get the .com. But the affiliate offers I'm promoting are only for US customers so maybe it was a good choice.
