Hoplink stolen!

Just checked a website i built last year as the hops stopped showing on my account, when i checked my hops on that site someone elses id is showing instead of mine, i`ve now pulled that page for now.
I know there is software availble to steal links, has anyone else had this happen to them? anyway of stopping it?

So someone replaced the link on your site? Or transfered the clickbank hoplink to their account?

Not sure how they did it, i know software exists to highjack links, when i clicked on the hop it displayed another username and did`nt show on my stats, closed that page and was wondering if this is a one off or have others suffered.

I dont know how somebody could "change" a link on "your" website, unless they were able to log into your host or wherever you manage your website.

Yea i`m thinking the same, if no one else has had this happen then it must be the case.

    dude..

One of two things are going on:

    1) You're mistaken and the html still has your hoplink.

    2) Someone changed your html without you knowing about it.

If it is indeed 2) you need to change your password. Do you allow ftp to your site? If you're hosting at a data center and you allow ftp your password has been passed in the clear.

Or maybe you left your cpanel/wp-admin account to 'changeme' or something equally lame.

That's why it is so important to cloak your link.

Did you ever figure out what had happened?

Was it a cookie issue, or did someone hack into your site and change your hoplinks?
I had an affiliate that thought his link was stolen or broken, but it turned out to be that the cookies were not being set for some reason. Either clickbank was not setting the cookie correctly, or his browser was blocking them.

I added some code to my site to prevent that problem, and posted about it here: http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=1793186

I wonder what really happens. I dont see how a software can change the clickbank hoplink without accessing through your account.

Me too - I'm curious about this. This just can't happen unless somebody owned your account. Or the hoplink you have is crap, or the vendor is dropping their own affiliate cookie. Either way - this should be pretty easy to fix.

Was this a wordpress.com, blogger, squidoo, or some other non-self hosted site? I would think it would be easier to get hacked with those types of sites than with your own self hosted site.
If it was one of those, then contact the site and tell them about it, as the hacker could be targeting many other sites.

Whatever you do, change your password and whatever else you can, and also check for any uploaded files which shouldn't be there.

well the only expalation is that some might got access to your website, you can ask your hosting company for the log files.
