Looking at past history, as well as the recent past, 6 years ago, 6 days ago, it is pretty easy to come to only one conclusion.

Now, calling a Syrian retarded is a far cry from associating them with terrorists (though their government supports terrorism). I would think calling someone a "retard" would only likely really be offensive to a "retard", but that is never the case, given it is not nice to call a "retarded" person a "retard". And do not forget that a retarded person, would likely not understand the insult. So it is widely accepted that calling someone (or a group of someone's) "retarded" IS going to be offensive to them. Since implying someone who is not "retarded" by physical nature, is indeed "retarded", is where there offensiveness lies.

You have to put my comments into the context in which they were derived. In reference to a story about Syria's president and some statements he made:

"DAMASCUS, Syria (AP) -- Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad said Tuesday that America's plan for a "new Middle East" collapsed after Hezbollah's successes in fighting against Israel, and warned the Jewish state to seek peace or risk defeat in the future."

Reading this, any rational person who lives on the side of reality would naturally assume he is retarded. I mean to make a retarded statement like that, it stands to reason he may just be retarded. Now since he represents his country as a whole as their leader, if he is retarded, what does that say about the people who put him in office?

I'm pretty confident that my use of the word "retarded" in the context in which is was used is fairly accurate.

The debate moved from discussing this specific case to principles. And you know how that goes...

 

We can limit the immigration. We can make laws that will help the integration and also the assimilation, such as forcing christians, atheists and moslems to go to the same school and in the same class. We can also make a law that prevents new immigrants from moving into an all-immigrant neighbourshood(not very liberal but would perhaps solve problems). I think there's a lot that can be done.

Blogmaster, I do think it is a little unfair to have a go at and raise issues about someone on another forum, especially as he is not a member here and is not around to explain himself.

I would like to say thanks to a lot of the DP crowd as they read the thread in question before answering and could see the reasoning and that in no way was he praising the death's of one over the other.
