Well I'm going to go ahead and block the submission page tomorrow and give it a week. What finally put me over the edge is that looking into submissions it's not like I'm getting some good and a lot of bad submissions from India, I'm getting absolutely no good submissions....nothin'. So it's a complete waste of time. Will give this a week and throw up some numbers here so people can decide for themselves if this is a solution for them. Also as far as better captcha/etc that's not the problem. There's no software solution to absolutely stop crap submissions. You can stop automation, you can stop certain keywords, but stopping pure human submitted worthless sites and descriptions is another story. So we'll see. Thanks for the feedback.
IMO Blocking Indians is not a good Idea, I have PR4 paid directory {buy 2 months ago} and 50% of all amount i am earning is from indian seo companies. and if you are want to stop spam then you can use recaptcha, this is really a nice way to stop 60%+ submission which is done by using automated/semiauto tool like digix**s, and all other similar tools .... or you can use ban word mod.... or you can ban individual ip by tracking submission record instead of blocking all ip range from india..
Have you tried blocking direct requests for your submission page? Might cut down on the automated crap, but it wont' stop an idiot who actually visits your site and decides to submit a site.
What flood of 50 URLs from the same IP whereas our Submission Guideline says: 1 URL from the same IP every 30 days has to do with racism? We're blocking IP without even looking at origin but only because someone thinks that he/she have chance to submit to our directory without following our submission rules. Why don't you tell most likely hard working people that not every directory is a cesspool and that the price for inclusion to quality directories is: a) Manual Submission b) Reading and following Submission Guidelines is must It's so easy, all they have to do is try to change their ways fastreplies
60% from India, 20% from Russia, 15 from other Asian countries -- 5% from others I personally am dealing with this phenom -- Just blocking the domains right now as I reckon not all r culprits to use softwares!- but might also block the IPs when I'm not in the mood.
As far as directory spam submissions, India ranks #1 and to lessen it it is probably the best to just block the whole country's IP and see what happens.
I have 500 usa private proxy, 100 uk private proxy, 100 russian proxy, 100 germany proxy and 50 european country proxies. If i or any one do directory submission with private proxy, How you will stop that. As we know now-a-days every one using private proxy for directory submission. So country block is not a good solution. I do accept that a lot of seo firms and individual spammed a bit more in directory submission.
I have paid directory and most of Indian "SEO Companies" make me profits. dont block IP range to Indian "SEO Companies"
if your earning is good from indian customers then use captcha to control spam and if money coming is not significant comparing spam then yeah ban the ip of indian customers consider time and money as a tool to analyze the situation
I see your 900 proxy's and raise you 6,500 IPs on our blacklist. Now it's up to you to figure out how to get listed in our directory. fastreplies
You are forgetting something. It's easy to block automated submissions by spam bots. That's NOT the issue in this thread. The problem here is human spammers from India. Automated anti-spam scripts IS NOT going to stop human spammers. You are mixing two things together that are separate problems. If you know a way of stopping human spammers from India, please let us know. I have to spend a lot of time everyday deleting spam posts from India, and I am tired of it! Do you have a solution, other than blocking India altogether? What do you mean spam from the USA? I don't get spam from the US. WTF are you talking about? The only spam from the US comes from automated bots, which are easy to block. Human spammers tend to come from India or Nigeria. This has nothing to do with racism at all. It's just a fact.
Automated spam bots has nothing to do with this problem. I thought of blocking individual IP's, however, every new spammer everyday has a different IP. It doesn't decrease the spam by blocking the IP of each spammer. New ones pop up all the time.
I just make any submitter must creating an account first before they can submitting any site, must use real email address for verification purposes.
banning is wrong, I have problem with indian users on social bookmarking site. On my directories probably I should not only ban India, but also Russia, Ukraine, China. When I see spam I just use "Mark as Spam" option.
outright banning of ip from particular countries is not going to solve your problem. There are 100 different ways to submission of site.
If I were you I wouldn't block any country from accessing your website. If understand correctly, Google doesn't like websites that prefer one country over another. They want your website to be available for any country if they list it in their searches.
