Site not indexed for its keyword? Sandbox'd?

My site isn't showing on Google for the keyword I tailored it to. Nor is it showing in Yahoo (it was page 7 then disappeared)

It is 2 months old w/ ~400 one way backlinks.

However, on Bing it is showing page 3 and 4 results for all its keywords and more!

What could be wrong? Check it out in my sig.

My friend says it'll come back with really good rankings eventually if I keep working on it. Is this true?

I can't say, but has anyone seen this phenomenon happen with news articles and other breaking news? That they DO shoot up right to the top when new, but do they later on submerge into back pages?

In my experience, MOST of the time it's true!! We call it the "Google Dance" as opposed to the Sandbox. If it does not come back in a couple of weeks, stronger than before, then it may actually be sandboxed....

You also need to check the quality of your links for your site to rank in Google.
Good quality backlinks are from authority sites, with proper keywords in anchor text. Do-follow backlinks have more weight in rankings. So first check your backlinks with a good backlink analyzer tool before jumping to conclusion.

It also depends on the competition of your niche... Yes it might be in sandbox.
