Domain name trademark problem!!

    OK.
I need some help clarifying a position.

There is an official website for a football club that uses .com and .fr, so they are xyz.com/xyz.fr

Can I buy the domain name xyz.co.uk and create a fan-site or is this infringing some sort of trademark?

xyz is not the domain name, but the domain name is the same except for the .co.uk, I don't really understand what the rules are for this.

Hope someone can help, feel free to ask any questions if I have not made it clear.

If you open a website on similar thing as they have, they can take it off from you legally.
However if you open a website on something else then they cant do anything.

You can always make a one page website and put a banner to another website though. just an idea:)

if they want to they can forward the case to nominet, whereby you have to prove you are acting on good faith and not making money on the back of their trademark, bottom line is they are likely to have a bigger legal budget than you, and its never nice when that solicitors letter arrives by DHL!

say for example they are footballclub.com and footballclub.fr - right? now you want footballclub.co.uk? well, that is certainly going to be problem. even if you try to register a name with letters before or after 'footballclub' then also it falls under trademark problem. find out what's happening in udrpsearch dot com

this willl going to be waste of time and money and efforts. The same name , niche can prove you as badfaith and they can take that easily.

btw is XYZ is a LLL term or random name ?

If still want to play then leave a note anywhere in your page that your site does not have any relation with xyz.com

Would you mind reading the thread carefully? I suppose he is not intersted in new domain name registration.
