Hey DP members.I am from India.
I am planning to do a certification course.I have two options.Java and Vb.net.
I dont have any idea which platform they use in IT companies.

Few questions that arise in my mind.

Which of the both has good future?
    Which one would you suggest?Why?
    Which one is easier?

    Please post your valuable suggestions.
    Thanks.

I would say VB.NET is by far easier, but only because I took a course on Java and a course on VB.NET, and for VB.NET i had visual studio to work in, and notepad++ for Java.

I think their is more of a demand for .NET applications then java at the moment.

vb.net is easier as killaklown said (due to visual studio)
vb.net is often used for asp.net (webdevelopment)
Java is multiplatform (can be used on most operating systems, requires javaruntime)
Java is often used for mobile platforms such as Android and Iphone
Demand is similar might be more demand for .net (should be different depending on what type of development we´re talking about)

Java is the most widely used language on the 'net and used by more IT companies than any other language except C. Anyone who says VB.net is doesn't know what they're talking about.

You should go for VB.NET for sure
but whereas "Which is good for future" is concerned, i would ask you to keep updating yourself because technology keeps changing. You never know that at the time when you complete your certification, either or both of the two would be taken over by some new technology.

Exclude mobile apps and you will see java is NOT the more popular then vb... I like how people like you read an article and then believe they are an expert in the field.

Also, Im not exactly sure how being the 'top' programming language make it better then any other language...

Your pretty much saying "Learn java, its really popular, who cares if its better or not.. Who cares if theres more competition, who cares if more competition = lower salary.. . why? Cause its the 2nd most popular language!!!!"
