Has anyone blocked India IP address ranges from submissions page on their directory? Seems over 80% of my spam submissions are from india and on top of that about 99.9999% of submissions from India are spam. Wondering if just blocking India IP range via htaccess will solve?
We have 3 strikes and you out and into blacklist policy but, we do not kill whole block. Some Indian sites actually very good and submitters read and follow Submission Guidelines, others have such a shitie Titles and Descriptions they should be blacklisted on principal. fastreplies
I welcome any legitimate family safe submissions from any country. You may try to use better humanity test for your directory.

Understood it's a bit of a nuclear option but every site submitted from India for us seems to be just spam. Was thinking about blocking for a week or so and seeing how much spam goes down.
Not a good idea to ban India IPs as there is a good SEO company from that country making their rounds.
don't you thing so that banning whole block of Indian IP will be wrong and will suffer other genuine submitters also..
We spend around 5000-8000 USD a year making paid submissions for clients and our personal projects. Targeting a whole community and trying to be racist is not going to get you anywhere. Spam is not just from India. Its known to the world that US is the king of spam with Germany, Russia, China not too far behind, but we aren't complaining. Those who plan to just ban an IP range/block are probably noobs in this industry who don't know the tools or cannot/don't want to pay for the tools that help you prevent spam and other crappy submissions. I do sympathise with you guys, get well soon!
Most of the directory submission companies, individuals are from India. Did you check how many of those sites owned by the Indians ? Are spam sites submitted via India or those spam sites owned actually by the Indians ? curious on this.
Well, i do agree on this.. US is on number one position in spamming and hacking. And there are lots of companies in US who are outsourcing their work from india and outsourcing is just providing the required data and getting the work done. I don't think that others should suffer for someone else mistakes.

Not a noob, been dealing with this for years. I don't want submission services either as they just submit duplicate description content. If I saw a bunch of crap coming from Germany I'd consider blocking Germany. FACT: 99.9999% of the submissions from INDIA are either spam or duplicate content for over a year. This is not the same with any other country. (For our directory obviously not sure in general)
ban it and see the result if the result is good then thats better. In proxies i also ban by countries

Most of them doing SEO for small amount of money..its not even SEO ! but its not a good way to block them all.. There are many good peoples with worth websites too. First try to block the automated submissions.. using Captcha image verification / or any other tools ,etc But definitely by blocking a country for a directory website.. you FAIL yourself ! because its your fault on allowing automatic scripts / spammers. get a better script ! I have already banned India, I agree that many good submissions also receive but spam ratio is 10:1 so had to ban it off, I have less work now and my directory is running fine Just alexa drop but doesn't matter if one owns PR4-6 Directory PS : Before anyone calls me racist, India isn't only banned, Phillipines, Pakistan (My Own Country) & China too are blocked.
How do you visit and update your site with your own country IP ranges are blocked ? isnt it easy to unblock them and install a better spam blocker script ! Do you access your website from any other country ? So you wanna fly to another country just for updating your website.. lol PS : just joking. don't take anything serious !
submit.php is blocked not admin.php pstt even the entire site is blocked, This world have Proxies, VPN's
Spread across different directories, that wont make it mean much of anything to a directory owner, if you were spending 5 - 8k in one directory then i think nearly all directory owners wouldn't mind where the submissions were from then. I do think that banning all IP's coming from a particular country is extreme, something worth thinking about is the bad reputation that the unprofessional indian webmasters cause where it leads to problems where people want to go to extremes like this. The tools that you mention humm, i sometimes see it like this, that the problem is deliberately created in order to sell the preventative tool. Similar to how those antvirus software companies have got to be putting out some of the viruses themselves to get people t buy the software. Theres no racism in this matter, thats another matter altogether, i think anyone wanting to block anything is just pi**ed off, understandably too, people are overwhelmed nowadays with too much information, and spam to a directory is another headache.
