Are .US domains suitable?

If you can get some keywords you plan to target in .US domain extensions should you pick them up?

I noticed you can find .us domains fairly cheap in some places.

Do they have any negative aspects?

That I know is in google webmaster, all doms can be set up in US preference. If i were you, i will pick it up and do some experiment, c0z it will be different with google (if u want organic traffic)

.US = In the future websites that will show up in search engines will be dominated by local domain names. So its best to invest now while its early or suffer the lost of traffic to your competitors.

Just because it's a .us domain doesn't mean u can't have international traffic though correct? If u sell something it can still be sold to international people on a .us domain?

    - .US is more powerful then .COMs on google.us "a.k.a google.com"
    - .US works like a .COM on google.ca / google.in / google.co.uk / google.co.jp ...ect

In other words, ccTLDs are more advantageous than gTLDs on search engines.

If I'm from Japan and i want to buy japanese stuffs, i do i google search it the first thing i see is .co.jp
I'll rather buy a toyota car from toyota.jp then from toyota.com because on toyota.com, they don't sell small electric japanese cars, they just sell big diesel american cars.

    See what i means?

.coms are no greater then ccTLDs on search engines.
.coms are good only for type-in traffic because when people think of website, they think of .com but it's slowing degrading over time.

.com is 25 years old and it doesn't the feature that .us have.

Do .us domains rank the same on google.com as they do on google.us?

lets say I wanted to rank for the term "extreme snowboards" on google.com
extremesnowboards.com is already taken but extremesnowboards.us is not.
    I buy extremesnowboards.us

would that be a better decision (search engine wise, marketing wise) than buying a domain like theextremesnowboards.com (extra word added but a .com domain)

I personally think .us is a crap extension. It has a hell of a time ranking for short-tail keywords, where .com and .net never has the same issues. I also read an article where Rick Latona (famous domainer) put the extension down and refuses to deal with non-premium .us auctions/sales...in which case, that is one guy I'd listen to...

I believe ccTLDs all rank the same on google.com... so in answer to your question trendsa, yes. However on the flip side, the .us domain may rank higher for google.us

    0: Google.US search for "CARS"
    1: Country (US) + Domain (CARS) + Language (ENGLISH) = CARS.US
    2: Domain (CARS) + Language (ENGLISH) = CARS.COM, CARS.NET, CARS.ORG
    3: Domain (CARS) = CARS.JP, CARS.IN ...ect
    4: Other = 汽车.CN

If you are intended to park your domain or resell it, you should go for .com's as it is more search engine friendly and it has more appreciation than any other TLD's.

Yes, .US domains are suitable, as long as they contain high rich keywords and are targetted to a specific market.

What's this about Google.us? When I visit it, it just forwards to Google.com....

I would go with theextremesnowboards.com Because the keywords are there, its a .com, more brandable.

i had made a .us site with non-us content, it got huge traffic and was a big success. i believe it's the content that matters most.
