Okay so you've all talked abt the best one to manage.Feature wise. As i understand most votes go to Joomla. Now how safe are these opensource ones? Hw bt Mambo?
hmm not sure but i would think open sourse ones wouldnt be very safe although maybe im wrong. I will look into this and see what i cna come up with regards
Stay away from mambo/joomla - they are the most frequently hacked. Custom CMS will definately be much safer or a lesser known product that isn't popular.
Actually all of them should be safe... if you installed them as you should. Usually security issues related patches are released as soon as the hole is found; like any server side piece of software. Besides security some procedures are necesary... ie backup your database in regular basis
I agree that when holes are found, they're patched pretty quickly. Out of interest, I'd love to know why chrisbell "would think open sourse ones wouldnt be very safe". The sentence "Custom CMS will definately be much safer or a lesser known product that isn't popular" reeks of 'security through obscurity'. Custom CMSs still have their problems, except with less people using them, I would say that you will find that: a) with less users, it will take longer to work out what the problem is; and b) with less users or developers, it will take longer to fix. Open Source CMSs tend to get fixed proactively: people are always looking for problems and fixing them before they are taken advantage of. Yes, a number of zero-day attacks get out, but if we were to believe that non-open source applications were safer, then naturally Windows wouldn't have many issues... not trying to start a flamewar here, just pointing it out!
Ive never had any problems with MODx - it seems fine to me safety wise with a hierarchial system of admins, registered users, guests etc...
if there are bugs in open source then they would be fix soon, so as long as you keep on updating your open source projects, you would be safe. So you have to be on your toes to be sure. Check your logs daily to see if there's anything fishy, and keep on taking backups at least once a day. This will keep you safe in case the security of your site is jeopardized.
It dpends on your definition of safe - safe from spam or safe from hacking ? If you're talking about spam then I'd go with Wordpress and install Akismet plugin and if you're talking about safe-hacking then I'd still go with Wordpress. I'd always go with it 'cause it is the smallest in size, hence less complex hence alot easier to use and alot harder to hack..
yeah i meant both safe against spam as well as hacking. i used to have a phpbb forum which was hacked - and i dint have any back up. dont want the same happening with blogs.
I just got a picture of this guy updating the website fof the web2.0 revolution demand. If you need some help; my fees will be very confortable. XD
