    Hi,

I was wondering how to start optimizing (SEO) for a dynamic "ecommerce" websites with 50,000+ pages. I don't have an experience of optimizing such sites and I would like to know about how to get started with such huge sites and what SEO strategy should be followed to get improved ranking is SERPs?

I would really appreciate if anyone with "personal experience" of such sites would reply and help me out.

    Thanks,

I have little experiences with e-commerce website but my advice may be useful. Most of dynamic driven website mistake is title on each page. They do not aware how important of title tag and the benefits of having unique title for each page. That will pose a negative threat and their pages might be devalued or de-indexed due to title duplicated.

If you can coding, or hire someone to code for you, just make sure your each and every page under your website has its own unique title at least.

Is your website SEO friendly in the first place? I would try and get your URL's like www.example.com/books/your-keyword-goes-here instead of /product.php?id=363736 also build you site for both humans and robots you want your site to be easily crawled by SE bots.

    just like other mention :
    1. Different Title on each page.
    2. Don't update all 50k page in one time, split to 50 time. each time 1k page and do it daily.
    3. Submit google site map.
    4. Ping the site, everytime update.
    5. twitter every page.
    6. Bookmark few major page.

You should able to rank well in long tail keyword.

Normal link building on the site main keyword and building back link.

At first I would focus on the basics - unique title & h1 on every page and good internal linking structure.

Dynamic sites are sometimes hard to optimize but if you have done your on-page SEO factors properly, you will start getting initial results.

    Tips:

    1. SEO-Friendly URLs (within 4 hyphens)
    2. HTML & XML Sitemap
    3. Titles within 69 characters
    4. H2 tag with keywords in it; in every product page (in case of e-commerce site)
    5. Image optimization - use keywords in ALT tag (no stuffing please)

    And many more...

For dynamic sites, make sure the keywords are always showing a relevancy in web page content & in meta tags (title, description & keyword). Once you are able to optimize your site, you can move ahead with offpage optimization.

Titles do not have a maximum of 69 characters. Just because that is all that google uses in its results, it doesnt mean that they are blind to more text. I always advice clients to use around 11 words max, but it doesnt matter if it goes over.

    Hi farangkwaiyai,
You are right, it doesn't matter if it goes over the limit, but Google will truncate long titles as it only considers short titles. And about the character limit in Title tag, do try to search about it and see what SEO professionals have to say about it.

Google is not blind but it is also not stupid to read 1,000,000 characters in a title. If you still don't agree, than here, read what Google says about web page Titles "static.googleusercontent.com/external_content/untrusted_dlcp/www.google.com/en//webmasters/docs/search-engine-optimization-starter-guide.pdf".

One story short, if I am using 135 characters in title and Google is only considering 69 characters, than why the hell would I waste my time in making long titles that are not considered by Google!!!

I will suggest to optimize main pages of websites and product related pages. Use canonical tag to avoid redundancy of web pages.Use title as product shown in pages.

    Hi,

I have an idea of a large site, make all the following dynamique : Title, Keywords, Description tags, and anything you might think is important for SEO .

You will also need a database table for different categories (for each one dynamique title, keywords, ...)

My final advice : try not to make two pages exactly the same

    Hi oahson,

I actually want to make two important points :
    1) For each category of the large site (or sub-category) make a database table to simplify the edition of Meta tags (ie : instead of writing a static title inside the Title Tag, make it a variable like this $Title[$Category,$SubCategory] , the vale of $Title changes upon the values of $Category and $SubCategory) which means that pages of different categories should have very different titles. So easy edition is important.

2)If your pages all look the same the search engine crawler, it is going to ignore them and all the thousands of pages will look like just one, or even worse : repitition can get you banned if it is a sort of spam, make the search engine think that you have not just "many pages" but "diversified content"

    I hope it was helpful
