Nothing to do with menu placement. It's more about the use of AJAX to enhance the user experience. Running alongside is a new style of graphics but thats really just a coincidence.

sarahk is partly correct. Web2.0 has nothing to do with design and everything to do with communication between networked applications. Ajax can be used to implement that but it's not directly related.

The original poster must be under the impression that web 2.0 is a design trend . That statement is totally false. Shiny glossy buttons reflections clean look is not web 2.0 style.
