I don’t want to lose SERP, with this intact how can I get my URL changed?

I own an online retail site based in Australia that has lately been showing various dissimilar pages in searches early on itself. Since the URL did not contain the search phrase I had to invest a lot of time and money to get this on the 1st page for that particular key search phrase.

There is a URL I own that has the same name and added onto it is a search phrase. Considering the bigger picture it is advisable to change it however I am worried to do that as it has more than 4000 backlinks. Without losing out on any backlinks and causing a negative impact on SERP, can I direct the old to the new in an absolutely 100% secured manner?

As far as my experience goes, if you setup 301 redirect in a 100% accurate manner, you will still end up losing your rankings. Though there might be a decrease in the rankings and eventually the traffic too, you will still get the rankings back in the end. My Page rank had been lost in every case till the next PR update.

There might be a certain time that your site is losing its SERP after the 301 redirect, but later on you will be just fine.

If you do not want to lose SERP then just update yous dite regularly. Also do the onpage and offpage SEO of the site with the particular keyword properly. And then also try to improvr traffic to the site. Also start getting backlinks for the site, which helps to improve PR for the site.
