    Is it possible:
In the previous version of Blogger, you could submit your atom feed as a sitemap file and it would work fine. First you'd get the meta tag for verification and paste it into your template, and then submit "http://yourblog.blogspot.com/atom.xml" as your sitemap.

In the Blogger Beta, however, this doesn't work, as of now (because the new feed engine uses a different url and slightly different xml). I believe it will be fixed some time soon, or Google will provide another way to do this.

    Is it necessary:
I'm not really sure on this one. I always believed blogspot blogs were crawled much frequently than non-Google owned domains, though Google never confirmed that as far as I know. So it might not be really necessary, but why take a chance?

Regular blogs made a while ago are normal, beta blogs are new and you have to go to beta.blogger.com to start a new one.

So suffice to say unless you specifically signed up for a beta blog recently it's a regular one.

From my experience, the feed for beta BLOGGER blog can still be found on http://yourblog[dot]blogspot[dot]com / atom.xml although there's a new feed available in new url.

No, the beta version is not work in the google sitemap. My blog is belong to the beta one and the atom feed URL is http://xiejacob.blogspot.com/atom.xml but unfortunately, I failed add this as the sitemap file, the google sitemap reported "General HTTP error: 400 (Bad request)". Anyone have done this sucessfully under Blogger.com beta version?

    But the RSS feed works.

To add your blogger beta sitemap, go to google sitemaps and enter your blogger beta blog url, click OK.

    To verify your sitemap:
    1. Click verify
    2. Choose verification method : Add a meta tag
    3. Paste the meta tag code after the "head" tag
    4. Click verify

To add your blogger beta sitemap:
    1. Click Add sitemap
    2. Choose type: General Web Sitemap
    3. Enter as your sitemap URL : http://yourblogname.blogspot.com/rss.xml
    4. Click Add Sitemap

    You're finished, happy crawling !

    Original post is here.
