I just purchased a GreenDot card (Prepaid Via card) and it says I MUST register my card. It wants me to provide a social security number (A Social Security Number is required to get a reloadable Personalized Card with ATM access). What risks could I be at? Should I give them my social security number?
I just purchased this card to verify my paypal.

did you know they would require a ssn for activation?
if not return it for a refund.

your ssn is very important, give it to no one, especially some friggin pre paid credit card company.

    tell your folks too.

unless your using it to send money to terrorist, none.
it is required by law to get your SSN.
    don't worry it's a trusted company.

why would they want to steal your identity anyway?you can't even open a bank account. :p

who the hell told you that.
the Privacy Act of 1968 says ssn is for one purpose only. social security.
theres no law that says you have to give it up for a pre paid credit card.

there is more then one purpose.

there is Acts on terrorism, more so since 9/11.
your going to need a social security number to open a bank account.
when you open a pre paid debit card it is issued by a bank.
this is what they say on their site:

if i went to purchase a pre paid credit card and thats what they require, i wouldn't give it and i wouldn't be getting the card.
my bank, my bank not some pre paid credit card place.
my employer and the government. thats who would get it and no one else.

i don't care what that website says.

now since your liking to quote, quote the actual law with reference as i would like to see.
