Thank all for the ideas. I'm wondering about directory submission. Many people say about the Yahoo! and Dmoz directories, but in my experience, these are very high quality directories, and really hard to be approved. Do you have some list of free good directories?

Start with best content with keywords in title and post.

Try to create videos and do video sitemap.

    Give alt tags in images.

Submit site in google webmasters and correct the errors shown by Google webmasters.

Yes, on-page and off-page should be your first step. Once you have completed with on-page, you can put your hands into the off-page optimization. Off-page contains numerous techniques using which you can promote your website and optimize your sites for visitors as well as search engines. I would say, if you are selling any products then concentrating on SEO would be the best to get potential clients. As it said that traffic coming from search engines is genuine and can bring a lot genuine clients. So, make sure you optimize your site properly for the search enignes. A few way to build a search engine friendly websites are mentioned on the "Google's Webmaster guidelines" page. Best of Luck!

Keyword analysis is absolutely the right place to start, then pick the primary keyphrase and try to find an aged domain if you don't have an existing brand that fits the keyword/phrase. Once you know which keywords you are likely to score with the site is built round converting the traffic into sales or whatever the goal is, then back-link building.

So, if I understand you guys correctly, the On Page optimization is actually more important in the beginning? I've been trying to do this backwards. So.. the code and content of the website first, then linking later? Once the site is the way it should be, how long until a webmaster should start building links, or is it immediate?

It comes second after Keyword Analysis and domain selection, you don't even think of coding or copy until then. Keyword analysis is absolutely vital. 3 golden rules,

    1. 90% of keywords get no traffic, so don't waste time on them.
    2. 90% of keywords are too competitive to get a decent rank, avoid them, pick fights you can win, there are plenty of phrases that get traffic but are not contested heavily in most market sectors - if you look for them.
    3. Most keywords have zero commercial value, they may get you traffic but the traffic will just be 'tyre kickers' looking for information not to buy. Being the number 1 source of information in Google is not what any of my clients want, they want to be #1 for sales. Use Microsoft OCI tool to see if your keywords are commercial 'buy' words or tyre kicker words.

    Good luck.

Once you have done your keyword research etc. I would always start with the on page optimisation, making sure all the content of the site is search engine friendly, particularly your page titles, before looking at building links to the site.

    Hello,

    I liked this post.

Could you explain it a little better?

Keyworkd Analysis: what are the parameters?

IN my case, using portuguese, I think i will have less difficult to get a better position in some competitive keywords.

Not to stir things up here, but honestly, most of what I just read is helpful but not really the best approach.

This is the approach I use for all my personal sites as well as any SEO consulting.

Keyword Research - Google Keyword Tool or Keyword Tool Dominator
Keyword Analysis - Compare your Google Page rank verses the top 5 pages for the search results for each keyword found
Target Keyword that you can rank for and are related to your website. If your Google page rank is 0-3, only target keywords with the top 5 pages on the search result with a page rank 3 and under. If your 4, target keywords with the pages with a page rank 4 and under and so on and so on.

Google provides a lot of information, use it to your advantage.

    Build, Build, Build External Links

Anyways this is just my two sense. Helps me, maybe it might help you!

    This is interesting, too.
I will try to test this Keyword Tool Dominator.

Is there any difference if I am using Portuguese - Brazil?

Get all your on page stuff right.

Skip directory submissions spend that time on content. Once site is ready submit feed to rss agregators.

Then backlinks from article submissions, social bookmarking and blog comments.
