I ran into a fellow webmaster the other day and he was bragging about his success of getting a high ctr from adsense. I congradulated him - then he followed up and said that he barely put information on pages and when he wrote these pages - he pretty much "winged" it. I was pretty amazed. I'm thinking the guy is lying because if a visitor looks at a site with not much info about the subject they are looking for - they will simply click out of the site instead of allowing their eyes look over the google ads and then click on them. What do you guys think? Is he lying? I think you need great, unique content on your site to further arouse the visitor's interest in the subject - and they will be more likely to click on google ads. Maybe I'm wrong???
Maybe: 1. block back button, by JS 2. bad content, but nice small picture to draw eyeball to ads 3. not that bad, just ok enough for people keep look for highlighted ads
I generally have a large ad just under my Title with good content below the ad... similar to XFactor. My ctr is in the 28% range on a regular basis.
I agree with you jaxrefinance. Make your visitor get bored. And they will click an interesting link you provide (your ad).
making visitor bored is a good idea..but make sure you got some interesting links that they will click..
I have quite good adsense conversion on one of my sites. 9-11%. I wouldn't say the content was bad, but it is limited, meaning visitors look elsewhere for more content, and click on the ads!
You can also confuse your visitors. For example: cut article in half and place a link call "More..." very reasonable link to see the full article. Then place adsense after the "more...", your visitor will think the ad link is more.... So, more click more income. Fantastic "more......"
You need middle of the road content. Content that leaves them half-satisfied. The problem is in creating content like that to get good adsense ads showing. A lot of junk content is not useful. Pretty looking junk is what you want. I'd stay away from sites that dupe the visitor into thinking your site is great, only to find there's nothing there worth reading. I think google frowns on that as well. Stephen C
I'm not sure about bad content and good content. I always try to make a good content as I can so people will keep coming to my blog.
If you have no content at all - can you still get your site well positioned in the search engines? to get traffic to start with.
You mean doorway pages? lol yeah it works sometimes, when your visitor is looking for some information and he don't get that on your page and has only option to see those ads and click them.
