I have 2 domains: domainOLD: >10 yrs old domainYoung: ~ 2 yrs old Currently, the main site is using the domainOLD, and the domainYoung is point to the domainOLD using 301 redirect. I got this setup for almost 2 yrs. Does it have any impact to the SERP? Originally, the domainOLD is rating on the 1st page of the yahoo search for a keyword, but suddenly it got removed and replaced by the domainYoung. The SERP is still the same. It just replaced by the domainYoung. Since the domainYoung is younger in age, I am afraid that it will impact or confuse the SERP. Should I remove the domainYoung completely? or just leave it like that? What will happen if I separate them as two difference sites? Please advice Thanks,
This doesn't make much sense, I can't imagine why this happened unless the 301 was corrupted (check htaccess) and there's still a server account for "domainYoung".
It just set it up by the hosting company. The domainYoung is atill point to the domainOld Actually, now I see the domainYoung dropped to the 4th page. Should I remove the domainYoung?
You can continue to use 301 redirect from domainYoung to domainOld, this behavior sounds very absurd though.
You can still use the method but it would be wasted anyway. The young domain has no authority or trust status from search engine perspective, so it is no use to do 301 redirect. The old domain got ranked because of its aged and inbound link, not because of 301 redirect from young domain. I would recommend you cancel the redirect and build a completely new website on young domain. You can still use it to generate revenue and being a link base in the future after enough link built toward it.
