I understand there are certains ways that you should submit to directories, I have a few questions regarding this. I understand that you should change the title for the anchor text. How often should I change this and how different should it be? Say I submit to 50 directories per week, should I split that in have for each title, or more? How different does this anchor text need to be, can you still use similar keywords? Same with the description, should this be changed often? Is there ever a need or use to change the url to an internal page?
Personally I pick 9-10 keywords and then rotate them for different directories (and links). I rarely change the description because I think anchor text is more important. Just my 2 cents. Thanks.
Anchor text is important for your ranking. Description is important too, though. Most directories have 90% of their pages in supplemental index. IMHO that's because everyone is submitting with the same description. Another IMHO, link from supplemental index page is worth less than that from well indexed page.
Description is important but I think it's the job of directory owner to avoid supplemental indexing and it can done by having unique Title/Meta Description for each category. Most of good directories do that already. Thanks.
I have written a post here about using anchor text during directory submissions. Of course this is just a personal opinion and I realize that a lot of people will disagree with it.
I am also taking 6 - 7 different keywords and then submit it to directories. I am not changing decription. Some times if possible I am also submiting my internal pages.
You are right on the branding thing, except that 99% of directories get no visitors. So that would work in theory, but not in practice. Still, the "Brandablenamehere: Flash Games" format guarantees higher approval rate with certain directories.
True, but they get quite targetted traffic, from my experience most of the search engine traffic they get (almost all) goes directly to the inner pages and categories for very specific queries, so the traffic they get are actually people looking for sites in that category and to be honest I prefer 10 targetted visitors (that will probably buy something from my site, bookmark it and come back later etc) over 100 random. Of course the post wasn't meant just for directories but it was my personal opinion about how and when to use a keyword rich anchor text in general.
you're forgetting one thing; what if the actual name of the site is keyword rich in url,and My Best Flash Games Online really is www.mybestflashgamesonline.com? get what i mean?
That's in my opinion one of the reasons that good keyword domains are valuable, links are naturally keyword rich. Unfortunately very few of them are available. Even for an obscure niche (about 100 searches per day and keywords that the average person has never heard of) that I was building a couple of sites available keyword domains were practically non existent. I guess domainers have a really rich vocabulary
I use different anchor text, different url (deep linking) and different descriptions, so it’s a loot of work; I can only make 3-5 submissions a day and normally only to high quality links. Hope I get rewarded in the end.
The whole purpose of varying your keywords is to make your links look more natural. If you want to rank for 'free flash games', you obviously want as many links with 'free flash games' in the anchor text as possible. Problem is, if you have too many, the Google algo will pick up on it and you'll see your rankings plunge. That's why you want to vary it with 'flash games' or 'fun games' or 'play free flash games'. It's all about making it look natural.
Hi Most of directory have faq or information on how to submit site, but if not you can find best sub-category and click on submit site or add url. Some directories, once you click on submit site or add url than you have to select best sub-category for you site. Also you can use site submiting service. I hope it will help you.
