    You can also block the page from being indexed/crawled again by setting a restriction with a robots.txt file. more information here http://www.robotstxt.org/

    if you do not have access to robots.txt then you could add

    <meta name="googlebot" content="noindex">
    Code (markup):
    to the <head> area of the page for google or

    <meta name="robots" content="noindex">
    Code (markup):
    to cover all bots that obey it.

    you would have to wait for the page to be re-crawled before the bot take notice of it tho.

    If you want to remove your webpage from Google then go to webmaster tools and block robots.txt on the page.

    guys, I am facing the same issue my site was a oscommerce based car accessories store, google indexed it and now its cached. In total the site was small and had over 225 links that were indexed by google. Since the oscommerce site wasn't running due to the fact that my supplier backed out, I decided to make it into a car information site. The website is on a wordpress blog. However, now the scenario is that since google has cahced the previous oscommerce based site, old URL's are being shown on serps, whenever a user comes in, a 401 error appears, I have tried setting a 301 redirect via .htaccess and via cpanel both have failed.

    Now, I have used webmasters tool's URL removal tag plus I have disallowed the links on robot.txt file. The change is coming but it is very slow.

    I want to know if I have done the right thing looking at the whole scenario ?
