Hi, I am doing SEO for a clients' site. I have been building links constantly for several months to the index page, a normal http page. Just recently the whole site is https. So when you visit the http index page, it automatically goes to https. The site itself is still the same though. Has this effect on my rankings? Should I build links for the site with the https now? Or should I keep building links with the http? When people visit it via http it redirects to the https anyway. I cannot change it back since it is the way it is, done by their techs.
what if some sites link to the https page now? Will google see that as a new page getting new links? Or do the links to the http also count for the https page, since it is being redirected?
You can get this problem solved by done 301 permanent redirect from http --> https. This redirect will transfer all links power to the new version of website. You can read here for a comprehensive guide to do this - SEO 301 Redirect Http to Https - WebsiteIssues.com
