I buy lots of domain names and sometimes I don't check the validity of the pagerank, silly me.
Recently I won a Domain on a godaddy auction for a PR6 domain, turns out to be fake.......... What can I do?

well that's the thing, I paid then looked into it. If I cant get a refund its not a big problem, I paid very little for it. Has the domain got any seo value at all?

Well, it is a good domain name to start with. The only thing is that you were defrauded thinking it has PR 6. Anyway, you have now a good chance to increase the PR of that domain.

It is really a good domain name.

Why are you buying a name based on its PR in the first place? For one thing, given that Toolbar PR only re-calculates once in something like 6 months now, even if you did check its validity, it would have been an old value anyways. Also, chances are that change in ownership may trigger a PR wipe-out anyway.

Instead, I would always look for the number of back links and whether the links are relevant to what I am planning to use the domain for (which may be different from what the former owners used it for)

Page Rank is a silly concept in itself. Buy a domain with Page Rank? No, there is no parked domain with PR. Only websites with content get PR.

Google rank pages based both on Content and Links. If your website has good content but no links and is not indexed your rank is N/A. If your website has 10K backlinks but no content, your rank is also N/A. So a domain rank is worth nothing; you need also content.

I have made a program that gets me PR for auctions so at the time I was unable to check any other statistic, I would never normally buy a website with no links and keep a domain with no content

Yeah, best to check at least yahoo backlinks and their pr-s so then you can find out the value of the pr and the site. And it is true if the site dont have a pr but has good backlinks then you can predict good pr for the site.

Basically I would advice you to check the pagerank, the domain history, backlinks and check if the domain is blacklisted on google. Most of this you can check on checkpagerank.net and on yahoo site explorer. Also check how many times the domain has been changed its ownership.

Now that you have purchased the fake PR site, you cannot do anything but treat as a new site in your collection and try doing some proper SEO and getting backlinks for it.

You need to check real backlinks for every domain. There are a lot of dropped domains with fake PR.

#1 thing you have to do. If you're looking at a domain claiming to be PR5 and it has nothing but a couple PR0 links in, something's up. If you can't be bothered to check the quality of backlinks, then buying domain names may not be the trade for you. There's no excuse for buying a bum domain.
