Should I build a new PC, or continue with what I've got?

I'm currently using an Athlon XP 2800+ (2.0x GHz), with 2GB RAM.
It does everything I need it to do.

I'm considering building a new PC with an Intel i7 860, with 4GB RAM (limited by XP).

I want to continue to run XP Pro 32.
I mostly use my PC for writing HTML and PHP - not exactly demanding stuff.
I also use Photoshop and After Effects, but even with my current setup, I'm happy enough with the rendering times.

My question is, will a new PC change my life?

Yes it'll definitely change your life. More RAM often leads to larger......, maybe you should opt for the 64 bit version and get 8GB RAM. :D

id say buy it, but get windows 7. there is no reason to stick with XP. 4 gb of ram on windows 7 with that processor and you will be amazed at how quickly it runs.

If your present computer is helping you do all the tasks efficiently, why is the need to change?

My simple advice is... if your tasks do not demand any upgrade, just do not waste money! :)

    Good advice

Another thing I have noticed on more than one occasion >

Whatever decision you make now and no matter what advice you follow the chances are (like me) six months or a year down the line there is every chance you will kick yourself and wish you made a different decision.

Hey I had a old computer with similar specs as yours, I decided to build my own pc, I gave myself a budget of around £500, I went for a intel quad core 2.5Ghz, 4GB Ram (Upgrading to 8GB in about 2 weeks), nVidia Geforce 512mb GPU, Gigabyte motherboard. I went with windows vista ultimate 64bit, (I couldn't afford Windows 7) and i am telling you now it is well worth it, seriously. I was going to buy a laptop before i made up my mind to build a pc, despite the fact of having a great pc, you get the thrill of building your own pc.

For the things you do on your current pc you wouldn't need high end hardware, If money isn't an issue to you I would suggest -
    - Intel i7
    - 4GB RAM
    - Maybe get a 500GB Hard Drive
    - You don't necessary need a dedicated graphics card, if you decide to get one go for 256mb-512mb you won't need more than that.
    - Gigabyte motherboard, I would recommend them, they are so reliable
    - Windows 7 64bit (Go for 64bit in case you want to upgrade your RAM)

I hoped this helped, oh one more thing, when you choose your pc case, choose a really nice one, get one with a side panel window, they look really good.

Yeah that pc you have is quite outdated. Will make a huge difference upgrading the pc, especially going with an i7.
