    Hello,

I recently changed one of my webpages URL from www.example.com/test to www.example.com/test-test

I didn't do any SEO for either webpage yet. Is it best to just let there be a 404 error on the /test or should i do a 301 redirect on the /test to /test-test.

    Thanks.

EDIT: Although I didn't do any SEO, the old URL is still ranking for some terms.

Definitely best to use 301 redirects, especially if your old URLs were already ranking for some terms. Plus, if other websites are linking to your site try and contact them to get them to link to your new URLs. Though its time-consuming its worth it in the long run.

I don't think you have to do redirect...
Bcoz you are adding one more page in your url....
as per you are saying like this - www.example.com/test-test
This is not a big issue, use fresh & new information in new page.....
DON"T DO COPY & PASTE OR USE DUPLICATE INFORMATION IN NEW PAGE.....

redirect ur old page to new page, as u r using same page for new link so it will be a duplicate content issue and ur both links will be down

Use 301 redirect because then any seo links or referals will get pointed to the correct url (and people might have bookmarked the page). Its good practise as well.

If you are adding one more page then you do not need to use redirection. But you do not want add new page want to change the url of previous page then you need to 301 redirect.
