Can anyone recommend a PHP developer or company that can do some work on an ecommerce site? I've tried looking around but cant find any reputable companies do do work for me. Obviously they have to have a reputation and be trustworthy person/persons. I just dont know where to look or find such people? It's for an ecommerce site if that matters at all.
Try posting at the DP BST, you can predict someones reliability based on their quality of posts and itrader. You can also try freelancing sites such as getafreelancer.com, (however note, I don't suggest scriptlance.com), but these kind of sites often are troublesome as you get bidders, who you know nothing about (some don't have any profile info), but on the brightside may work slightly cheaper as the majority are offshore (but remember the pricing could represent quality).
kinda agree with Dan.. .. usually i go arround forum to get some freelance job.. and in here is where i get the most customer... btw.. some suggestion.. if ecommerce site.. i think it will be easier if u just use something like prestashop / joomla plugin / drupal.. and customize it .. rather than build from scratch..
I go through RentACoder and LivePerson a lot. Be wary, on LivePerson your prices are going to be almost double anywhere else because of the high fees liveperson charge the programmers/helpers for their services. RentACoder are mostly developers from 3rd world countries although I've always gotten OK results if you can find a programmer for the right price.
Try oDesk, I am a PHP web dev/Project Manger working on oDesk for almost 3 years now and my client employs other web devs and web designer too that I manage. I believe you won't be disappointed there
I had a pretty bad time on oDesk. As a developer, the quizzes are mundane and don't test any kind of real skill to do anything (how hard is it to look up simple documentation on the web while you're doing it?) I tried to unload some of my excess work on an oDesk developer and all I was met with was some Romanian that didn't know HTML from my left foot.. I ended up throwing almost $100 down the drain to get $20 of work done .. Maybe I just had a bad experience, maybe I should of hired an american, I don't know, but i won't be going back!! Although, in contrast to be fair, I'm sure many people could say the same about RentACoder, which I actively am a developer and software buyer on (both ends of the spectrum). I *sell* PHP projects and *buy* C/C++ projects .. I've *bought* over a dozen C/C++ projects on there, and never had a problem and they were all overseas. So who knows.. I think actual coder selection is the key.
yes, I agree, as a developer and project manager for my regular client, I also had some nightmares with some of the developers that he hired, there was also one who worked on a fixed price project but costed my client more than he earned from the project as for the tests, yes, i agree that they can be cheated but the results also show how long the developer have taken the test (though he/she can also ask someone to do it for him/her)
I just personally liked the RentACoder model because I could 1) Get the money from the client, or atleast XX% (which I usually do anyway), 2) Turn around and post on rentacoder, knowing my profit margin and 3) guarantee the results .. you can't guarantee the time on RAC because if you get screwed, you'll have to start over, but you can at least guarantee results in time and know your'e not going to loose money quick edit: i post all my projects under NDA .. and I only outsource C/C++ projects when I'm overloaded!
oDesk has implemented a fixed price project scheme long ago so the clients have an option to post an hourly or fixed price project (i assume you don't know this feature yet because of your bad experience with them)
well, maybe I'll give them a try! Yes, it was long ago when I tried oDesk -- so I do somewhat retract my previous statement
i hope you had a great time with odesk, it has changed my life a lot as I am now earning more but working less because the "bargain" salary rate on odesk is a lot more than the normal rate here in the philippines
