Hey, im trying to renew a domain - which is normally pretty simple. But i couldn't seem to do it. So i followed some tutorial and i still cant work it out.

When i click on "renewal options" it just says "domain.co.uk expired on Thursday 18-Mar-2010." With no option to renew it.. Any ideas? I tried phoning them, but couldnt understand what he was saying.

I'm not too fussed about the actual domain, just the files which i have on that domain. I have all my college work backed up on there and i need it all as my first backup has failed ;x I can see the files on file manager in my hosting but no option to locally save them.

    Cheers.

Contact them. I believe you have about 30 days after expiration date to renew domain names.

Its not easy to get back expired domain.
You need to pay them some money to ask them return back your domain.
The money is around $30++ and its depend on the host.
And its not include the domain renewal fee.

make sure you've got it set to automatically renew. Every midnight they renew the domains that need to be, so once you've set it up, check tomorrow and it should have been renewed

While most domain names can still be renewed within 30 days after the expiration date, when these 30 days in question pass as well, the domain enters the dreaded Redemption Period state. Why dreaded? Recovering a domain name that has reached the Redemption Period state will cost you more.

The Redemption Period is allowed by ICANN and enforced by all big domain registrar companies. Here is what ICANN says about the Redemption Period and the higher fee for recovering a domain name :

During the Redemption Grace Period, registrants could redeem their registrations through registrars. Registrars would be able to redeem the name in the registry for the original registrant by paying renewal fees, plus a service charge, to the registry operator. Any party requesting redemption would be required to prove its identity as the original registrant of the name. (http://www.icann.org/registrars/redemption-proposal-14feb02.htm)

Up until this moment, recovering a domain name that has entered the Redemption Period state used to cost $190.00 USD. However, our domain registrar, eNom, has recently increased the price for the domain recovery – it is now $270.00 USD. This price is now valid for all domain names, which enter the Redemption Period state.

So you need to establish if your domain is now within the Redemption Period and either pay to get it back or wait until it becomes available again to the open market.

    All the best.

It is most likely in the redemption already
