301 is a permanent redirect. Search engine bots will acknowledge this as a permanent transfer from one place to another one place

302 is a temporary redirect. Search engine bots will acknowledge this as a temporary transfer from one place to another one place and may come back anytime.

Bottom Line : 301 is absolute best and most search engine friendly redirect. 302 has been marked as Spam attempt by all major search engines because of abused by webmasters. If you have to do any redirect, especially when transfer a domain or website to a new place then 301 redirect is safest to be used.

Have anyone seen redirects get indexed? I've noticed a couple of forwarding domains that are are placing in Google for keywords while the parent domain isn't. I thought forwards are never indexed.

Use the 301, but also use a canonical url just for good measure and to help move over any older links that may still be in Google.

301 redirection is the far better one, because 302 redirection is very much of missuses more often, so use 301
