Hey,I am currently in the process of backing up all of my DVD's to my pc, its so I don't damage my DVD's. I do wish to be able to play the DVD's on my PC without the disks. I just wondered whether it is best to store all the videos on a 1TB external hard drive or a 1TB internal Hard drive.
    Thanks
    John

the only drawback with the external drive is transfer speed, it takes quite a bit longer to save and move files to or from an external drive. An internal drive will give you much faster performance as far as saving/transferring and also playing your movie files. Playing large video files from an external drive can be a bit slower, and you may notice some skipping or momentary freezing once in a while. Honestly, it depends on your interface. Firewire you wont have much of a problem at all, USB 2 however will drag its feet. Bottom line is Internal > External for performance. External > Internal for convenience and portability.

Hi, we are on the opposite way. I am currently burn DVD from my PC to discs with iToolsoft DVD copy. I think movies in discs are safer.

Movies on discs isn't necessarily "safer." It takes up a ton of physical space, costs a lot of money, and you can only play them so long as DVD players still exist. Think about VHS tapes: how many of them do you still watch? Anyway, as Superstring said, external drives will be noticeably slower and often have weird power-saving quirks that can wear them out really quickly as the platters keep spinning up and down.

I would go internal, mainly because its the fastest method of backing up or storing files.. external drives are also ok if your on the go, but again if its USB 2.0 then the backing up will take longer.. OR if you can find yourself USB 3.0 External HD you should go for that.. I think the transfer rate for USB 3.0 is 6GB if I remember correctly...

Well... if you want to still have room on your comp for other things, an external HD is always the best bet.

external is secure but not high capacity like 1tb use 250gb like that, it is more safe.

External is ok, but not safest and much lower transfer speed. Better burn on disks.
