Two years after winning Wimbledon at the young age of 17, Maria Sharapova had been in a position to win a grand slam title but hadn't been able to convert until the 2006 U.S. Open. At only 19 years old, Sharapova says she has a lot more to give and that this is "just the beginning". Maria Sharapova Captures U.S. Open Title She earns nearly $20 million a year in endorsements now after just the one major win 2 years ago .... but when thanking everyone after receiving the US Open trophy, Maria Sharapova thanked everyone under the sun - except her sponsors
Good victory for Sharapova. She is Anna Kournikova with excellent playing skills. Anyway Roddick takes on Federer. If Roddick wins RodaPova might be the talk of the town.....
I like tennis though I'm not a huge fan (but Sharapova makes it easier to watch) but this year there seemed to be a postive synergy and buzz around the U.S. Open. Lots of tough matches and great athletes all around - it's always more interesting and fun when you have some solid competition like nearly every single match offered up!
That is true. Eye candy is a major factor in drawing crowds these days. Started with Kournikova, now extended to Sharapova, Hantuchova, and many others I used to follow tennis much before they appeared though
Yeah, as much as I tune into for a lot of the eye candy, it comes easy to drawn into some other great matches. Andre Agassi getting dumped by Brooke Shields was the best thing to happen to his tennis game in the last decade; he focused his energy and really gave some good matches his last few years.
