That's we are trying to say. We don't have "poor" people in American with very few exceptions where people allow drugs/alcohol/mental illness to keep them from even getting help.

I have heard of street beggars in the states who make over $30,000 a year holding signs that say "will work for food" Don't offer them a job though, they will get mad at you.

Really? Here you could not get a person to do that for $6/hr. It'd have to be two/three times that per hour just to get someone to do the most basic of tasks, like vacuum. $6/mo? Wow... Helvetii, where do you live?

A person at that 22k or actually, $16k level, if they have a kid, can get upwards of $9,000.00 or more in tax refunds (even though they do not even pay that in taxes). So in reality, many of our "poor" or living better than many in the middle class.

And don't forget about the people like that that are not married. They may make $16k/yr, get another $9k/yr back and then live with someone who makes say $75k/yr... You do the math. The US tax system is F'd up.

Again, its specifically designed to keep people dependent on a system that transfers wealth in order to keep those that perpetuate that system in office.

Those of us opposed to this are the ones you see here being called Racist, bigots, and Nazis...

But at the same token the middle class was being prevented to flourish as it should have with the industrial revolution.

I'd be more than happy to show you any concrete data on just how funds have been mishandled and how much money the Federal Reserve has swallowed. To this day there are repeated court cases where Americans are acquitted for not filing their tax return simply because the is NO constitutional stipulation naming the Federal Income tax anything other than something based on voluntary compliance.

The income tax is constitutional for profits but not wages for labor.

Note: The Federal Reserve is not Federal and has no reserve.
They print money and loan it to the American people at interest. In addition all federal income tax goes to them as interest payment while the debt increases.

...which is why they are overweight. Food stamps do not need overhauling, I would like to see them done away with.

This thread is much more interesting now. I hope to learn what a good definition of "middle class" is.ç

I forgot to add, that Mississippi is the fattest state, and, do not quote me on this one, but I believe Houston was the fattest city
    in the recent past.

It's also one of the poorest states in the union. Great indicator as to how dumbed down the uneducated masses really are. In most nations the poor have other problems that watching their weight. Their wallet watches it for them.

You made the statement that the Fed has shrunk the middle class. That is the data i would like to see. The legality and validity of the income tax is a completely different topic.

Here in India we have so many people in the lower economic class (more than the population of US) that the supply of labor greatly exceeds demand. The going rate for cleaning the garden, doing the dishes, laundry, vacuuming/sweeping is like $10-$20/month.

Its a fact that the middle class in poorer countries is much well off than those in rich countries. We can afford to get stuff done by other people and phone call rates here are a cent/minute, petrol costs a dollar/lite retc.

The Government here supports the poor only in terms of food and gas. Each person is entitled to 150 pounds of food grains at guess what? 2 cents!

In Indonesia you can rent a nice apartment with swimming pool, cable television, internet and daily cleaning service for 200 USD a month.

And full time security on the premises since anybody able to afford a 200 Dollar a month place becomes a target for crime.

The world is so economically unbalanced, it's unbelievable.

For 200 a month in the US you can rent a spot to park your tent. In the ghetto.

Housing is quite expensive in India (same problem, large population not enough houses). One gets a decent apartment (200 sq feet) for 150 thousand dollars and a bigger one like 10000 Sq feet in the posh areas would be like 5-7 million USD (Apartment!)

200USD a month, seriously lol, do they have any Vacancies? I thought I was getting a deal for 880Sq ft apt water/sewer/gas/Garbage Disposal for $580 a month it makes me wonder why it is more expensive to rent a place in the US when we have alot more space and there are Apartment Complex's going Bankrupt right down the road when they charge a arm and leg for rent.

So true. While I have heard that US universities charge upwards of $40,000/year, over here its just $100/year in the country's best colleges where average salaries of pass outs is $100,000!

The reason college tuition is so much over here is because we over pay tenured professors to the tune of 6 or more figures/year.. When I went to college it was around $2500/semester. Add in books, dorm, supplies (I was an art student), I was around $15k/yr. That was 15 years ago. My wife's base tuition was around $20k/yr back then as well. She went to a private art school. She lived at home and commuted and God only knows what all the supply costs were.

The difference? I went to the University of Wisconsin. So a great portion of my cost was paid for by tax dollars, otherwise it would have been a lot more. Figure double. And the public professors got paid a hell of a lot more. Hell, the dean of our school had a private mansion paid for by us. She was too good to use the on campus housing that was provided.

I shutter to think what things would balloon to if the government supplemented the costs 100%.

That's not too far off. I've had conversations where street beggars in Boston admit to making $300 to $500 a day - or more! He sets up in a highly trafficked area, about 400 people per hour walk by, over a five-hour period that's about 2000 people. All it takes is a handful of generous people - and Americans are a generous people - say, if only 1% of those 2000 people (20 people) were happy to place at least $20 in the cup, EVERY DAY, 20 people/day x $20+ = a good day's earnings.

Knowing this, I still put a few dollars in their cup.

It costs more here because we overvalue our property. That place you are renting probably barely scrapes by paying the mortgage off the rental income. Wow... before I bought my home, I was paying about $1300/mo. for my 1200 sqft condo. That was almost 10 years ago.

You have beggers in USA? I thought it was only a third world problem. We had a lot of them but we are getting rid of them before the common wealth games.

Helvetii. We do not have beggers. We have panhandlers. In downtown Chicago and NYC, they are dressed nicer than you and me, and with their $500/day, they stay in very nice hotels, eat like kings and then start over again. Its a rather lucrative business.

I remember one I saw in St. Louis a couple years ago that had a sign that said need money for bus fair. I offered him a ride to the bus station, where I would buy his ticket for him. He refused.

Want to help people in the US? Donate to a food pantry. They know who needs it most.

What is funny is they wear those "rags" when they are at work on the street. After work they get in their nice car parked right around the corner. One guy in a town near me was making $400 or so per day. They know how to hit the "right buttons" with specific personalities.

I believe the USA is already in a depression, but do not know how to prove that.

There's not a better subject matter than slamming the unfortunate...or sadder yet for a wealthy country is when those who have the means actually believe / create the opposite to the actual circumstances to suit their own indifference than solving the problem.

Putting on these people the unconscionable disguise of deceitfully earning what little they attain only illustrates the decadence of certain people that have no other place in society than the empty space they live in.
