I am having trouble marketing my home-based business website and am turning to my fellow DP'ers for good ideas. I do have a small budget and haven't thought about SEO due to the competition out there right now. Any ideas to rise above it? I'm still getting my feet wet in IM and would love some ideas. Go for local searches, paisano. You can dominate local searches easier and faster since many people look for business opportunities in their area. What I would do, is research on the search volume for queries with geographical identifier (home business YOUR-TOWN), and do some work around those keywords if the search volume is over 1,500. Social media sites is a great way to promote your business for free. Create accounts with Twitter, FaceBook, YouTube channel, etc. It takes time, but it will start paying off eventually.
You can also write up some press releases and articles and distribute them to free press release sites and article directories.
You can use viral ebooks to promote your online business. Get a plr ebooks and brand it with your business. Then give it away or sell it and it will virally spread across the net... That's one way to get quality free targeted traffic.
Hmm...what are you selling? if it's a physical product, then you can create a cheap brandable ebook for and sell it for $17, then you have hundreds of affiliates promote it for 100% commission while building you a list of BUYERS and YOUR home business website embedded in the ebook.

I would add onto some of the comments about writing and submitting articles and youtube videos. One thing you can add to the articles is turn them into a powerpoint format and turn it into a video to submit. You can also turn that article into a slideshow and submit them to www.scribd.com and www.slideshare.net. Will help with traffic while simply using the essence of the same article.
