Ha, I was reading an article this morning on IE9, and Microsoft was proudly touting it's HTML5 compatibility with an Acid Test score of ... 55. Ok, it's a beta, but really, that's just not the kind of number I'd be proudly announcing to all and sundry. Is this just another example of cloud MS, where they are all busily listening and talking among themselves, rather than paying attention to what's happening outside their office doors? I think they should all go and take an extended sabbatical and explore what's taking place in the world around them ...

Especially when all the other browsers are at 100/100 or close to it.
In addition, there's a HTML5 test out. Modern browsers score over 100/130. iirc, IE9 gets 19/130.

:) Maybe they should get a gold star for trying. What irks me is that with all that revenue, and all those (presumably extremely) talented and capable people, how is it that they can't come up with the work processes necessary to create truly amazing software? They should leave the competition for dead, given the resources at their disposal, instead of just copying it (often very) badly.

    Sorry, ranting again ...

Hilarious! I just blogged about this the other day out of irritation! Nothing has changed.

HTML5 is going to be official in 2022.

    Long way to go :)

A lot of features in HTML5 are just in development stage and if google or other company has implemented then it doesnt mean that its a standard.

Btw Acid5 test does not show much information, its just a test.

    Firefox is a bloated browser

Actually I don't get why IE is so hated. It's bad in every critera, okay, but it's not the worst.

It's way more safe than Firefox or Opera, IE 9 (preview) is faster than the latest Firefox.

The best browsers for speed are Safari and Chrome.
For security : Internet Explorer 8 and Chrome.

There is no remote vulnerability on IE like there are on Firefox and Opera.

Concerning the market shares, IE is actually going to gain some in a few years.
    Why ? Silverlight.
It's one of the browsers (if not the browser) that handles best Silverlight, and many many developpers are starting to use Silverlight instead of Flash and Java. Concerning HTML 5 and SCG, they can't compete with Silverlight yet.

That's my point of view, it's discussable of course, but please stop saying "IE is not safe" or "Opera is safe" without verifying it.

It doesn't deserve that much too. It is more prone to attack.

CSS2.1 was only finalized two years ago. Did you wait till then?
Standards are based on implementation. Standards are rarely invented beforehand. HTML5 will not become finalized till there are two complete, correct implementations.
Perhaps you meant Acid2? There is no Acid5.
False! And there are plenty of tests around that show this not to be true.

    It's the worst.
    Absolute false!
    Microsoft disagrees with you.
ROFL! Who uses Silverlight? Microsoft?!! LOL! It can't beat Flash and Flash is running scared of HTML5. Anything Silverlight and Flash can do, HTML5 can do. Except IE can't do HTML5 video or canvas! On top of that HTML5 runs everywhere while IE and Silverlight do not.
    Verified. IE is not safe.

In addition, IE is incompetent. It can't handle modern standards and practices. It's a dying browser.

Dude, drhowarddrfine, with all the respect, you're just quoting a website.
No offense, but do you know anything about security ? If not, please don't brag about it.

I agree with most of your points, but don't make me laugh like that :)

    And you are quoting nobody.
That web site gets its data for the charts from Secunia. Have you heard of them?
Do you know Bruce Schneier? I used to post his links. He says don't use IE at all. He IS a security expert.
I can't post all the links about IE insecurity.

I'm not going to argue with you, but i'm sure you can post all the links you want.
But the official ones say the opposite.

    http://nsslabs.com/test-reports/NSSLabs_Q12010_GTRBrowserSEM_FINAL.pdf

I work in security, nice try.

You know what this is ? http://www.it-tuv.com/internet-explorer
    Certification on Internet explorer's security.
Browse the site a little and you'll find out the reports.

Oh and it's funny you're talking about a security expert. Known for what remarquable accomplishement, I wounder...
I could quote Charlie Miller (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charlie_Miller_(security_researcher)) who said many times that the combination Windows 7 + Internet Explorer 8 was the most secure.

But again, I'm not going to argue...

Oh, you Microsofties always pull that thing out but never mention it was paid for by Microsoft. Keep trying. There's a thread in here all about that and essentially we found it was BS.
    Mall cop?
You have to go to Germany to find a German language report to prove IE security?! You can't go with Secunia? I can still do better than that. Let's see what the German government thinks about IE.
And I'm not even in security.
Maybe of the IE browsers but pray for help if you're not on Windows 7 or using IE8, but, rather than going on what you think you read once somewhere, let's see what Charlie, who lives in the next subdivision over from me, really did say about Firefox on Windows:

It is no surprise that IE is going downhill... still!

MS had to act when it had the most loyal and big fan base but having failed to do so, it will now require exceptional efforts on its part to win these customers back... and I am not hopeful of that happening, anywhere in the near future!

I hope Microsoft will accept the other browser like firefox to be their default browser...
I think IE is too slow compare to the other browser on its era...
