They are supposed to have dedicated status site www.dreamhoststatus.com, even it is down Anyone else with dreamhost having same problems or its just my server? Edit : This was their last outage which was huge (12+) hours: http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=108825 But during that at least their status site was up and running, I guess they are going worse from bad
I am fed up! Am looking for new host... you too should... they are not good anymore.... (too much downtime)
My sites are down too... I am giving them a chance to finally get things right with the Monday night fix, but if this type of downtime continues following this 'final solution'? I will move my important sites to another host. I have actually referred enough people to Dreamhost to pay both this year's and next year's hosting fees, with 10 or 12 free domains to boot, but I can't accept this constant downtime for my top sites. Here is the latest from Dreamhost: ---------------------------------------------------------------- DreamHost Status Network Problems Today We have been experiencing Network Problems Today, these are the same problems that have actually been happening since we first reported problems with our network. Unfortunately these problems have gotten worse today and are causing a majority of the downtime and slowness issues you are reporting today. These problems, and our attempts at fixing them, have been an ongoing effort. The maintenance Monday Night is a big step in resolving these problems. We are working on the network and all servers having problems, but the real solution will be the Monday Night maintenance. Sorry about the downtime, we hope to have this all resolved soon. - Sep. 8, 2006 5:45 p.m. Network downtime Monday Night (09/11) Monday night, we will upgrading our core networking equipment, which will result in some downtime of all services lasting approximately 30-45 minutes. We're expecting this to put an end to the network problems that were created by the power outages about a month ago.. - Sep. 8, 2006 3:30 p.m. Oops! Temporary Status Site We had a little goof and this will be our status site until the other machine can be resuscitated. - Sep. 8, 2006 11:40 a.m.
Wow that sucks. I have had similar problems with Site5 - they gave me a $3 credit for all of the down time when I would have made more than that if the site was up. So I decided my top sites should be on something more reliable like a VPS or a dedicated box..
I have site5 account as well and never had any downtime with them in last 6 months or so. In fact I was planning to move my important sites to them.
You get what you've paid for. If you want reliable hosting with the resouces that dreamhost is offering, you should either go with a VPS or Dedicated. Because if you get that with a shared hosting you should expect slow websites and regular downtime.. Imagine if all hosted accounts used up even half the resources? chaos!
HostingZoom.com is good. Support is wonderful, and the last time they went down it was for two hours and they apologised profusely in advance. They have much the same pricing structure as Dreamhost, although they are a bit more liberal with the amount of bandwidth they promise (which is fair enough, since Dreamhost promises insane amounts of bandwidth).
dreamhost down again today as we speak! DAMN! i need a good host that offer bandwidth, space, price, and uptime anyone know any?
Dreamhost is always down. They also oversell. It was hard for me to switch as they were the first host but I will have to say HostGator is awesome and easy to figure out. I am doing a reseller program with them.
Yepp, these three names are the one to look upto for shared hosting. I am with site5 since last six months and NEVER (yepp, never) had any downtime.
Who doesn't? I've had an account there for awhile, and though problems are annoying, I still feel the good has outweighed the bad over the years--especially for the price. I also have a Site5 account, as others are recommending. Personally, I like them as well, and I'm not having any problems with them at the moment--but you don't have to search too hard to find as much or more hatred for them as Dreamhost. I don't know if it matters or not, but I'm on one of their multi-site plans that they don't seem to offer anymore, so maybe some of the complaints are more related to their new setup.
That probably just depends which server you're on. I have had plenty of downtime with Site5 - including a hard drive crash and many MySQL problems where the server was up but MySQL had crashed and so my site was "up" but could not load..
