Google Indexing

I just wanted to check and see what you guys think about this. I have recently created and opened a site to public view. Then on Monday(4/12/10) submitted url and sitemap to google. Now I understand that it will take some time for google to actually index my site, but here is my question that I am needing to verify to pass along to the higher ups.

They can see the homepage, and the homepage only, come up in google search results for url recoginition(site:mydomain.com) and they are thinking google has only crawled the homepage for some reason. I have told them according to my webmaster account and different SEO tools that they all say google has not crawled the site yet. They asked why, if it hasn't been indexed, would the homepage be coming up in results and be cached from google. My answer was that I do have active backlinks on sites that are indexed frequently and the link points to the homepage only and I believe that google may have visited that page only to correspond with the backlink and that is why it shows.

Now my question to you guys is am I wrong in my thinking that we have to wait a few weeks or so for google to index the entire site and that they may have visited the homepage because of the backlink? Or should I be looking at a certain problem with my site to see if there is some other sort of problem keeping google from going there.

    Thanks

    Hey oz198

I think you did all fine, Google will need time to index your site. What i would do if i were you, is to optimize your site, update your contents, create backlink, social media, all of those stuff to make it faster.

    Goodluck!

Yes - it can take a while for the rest of your pages to be indexed. You have submitted a sitemap, so as long as there are no crawling problems (which you can see in GWT) then it will be fine.

Yes, it can take a few weeks for Google to index the entire site.

There are a few things you can do to speed it along, such as using different social bookmarking sites blogpost comments to link to inner pages of your site.

Google's Vision is good, but we still face problems to get our content fully (not partially) indexed. Interestingly, Altavista is better these days -than Google- in indexing some of my sites! YES, Google has a complex matrix and does not want to disclose its crawling secrets by instant indexing; but Google's complexity sometimes becomes ambiguity! As for blogs, they are much easier to index because of their nature. They are -mostly- organic. Other web sites seem genetically modified when compared to blogs and other -mostly- organic sites. We need a more "disclosed" system of indexing!

I believe that the more frequently you updated your website, the most frequent also Google will visit your time. (I experience it with my blog updating every 3 - 4 days).

Whenever one faces the problem of having only the main page indexed, putting the link to inner pages on the same would surely help in getting the whole site indexed as well! :)

Google search engine will always index website pages, - because of its large overridden capabilities that is open to the public 24 hours a day Google search engine dominates all other algorithms - Yahoo search engine and MSN search engines are also another competitive brand - so make sure you remember how search engines work - blogs articles directory submissions and social bookmarking events can help you off to a better start............. good luck in the Google search indexing algorithm ....
