First analyse your keywords using Google analytics research tool.

Then do onpage seo - try beginner's guide for an overview and sample code.

Then do offpage seo - try overview of backlink campaigns for ideas of where you can get links but make sure you mix your anchor text AND mix the type of sites you get links from or you risk a penalty.

Once you have a fair overview, I would say the best way to learn SEO is to take a few websites and try to get them high on Google. You'll then learn for yourself what works and doesn't work - and also know what level of challenge you could take on for a customer.

If you want to be a good SEO, you must learn both on page and off page SEO.

On page means that when you develop your system you use good pratices that search engines like. i.e. try to stay away from tables and use css instead, search engine friendly urls, alt tags, meta tags, try to keep javascript to a minium so on so forth ( you should research more )

Off page would be getting as many relevant sites to link to your site by using directories amongst other things.

The most important thing about SEO and in my opinion what makes SEO fun; is that the rules tend to change, so you have to keep yourself informed on the latest best practices, join a forum that specialises in SEO

Firstly, you cannot become a SEO. Secondly, after 6 months you should be very competant at the basics. The only tips I can suggest is to start learning HTML, CSS, and PHP, hardcoding, not using WYSIWYG programs; and to keep reading here at the forums and you will pick up lots of information. I started out in the SEO field about 6 months ago and I feel very confident that I am more competant than many who have been dabbling for much longer than I have, mainly because of my strong HTML background. HTML is the key to success in this field, along with the ability to be dynamic when it comes to off-page SEO.

You lie to people, spam blog comment sections and lie to your clients, and you offer your clients snake oil and more lies.

I think doing course will not do any good. you should start working independently. you can start with your blog and do every thing you need to bring your blog in ranking. if you can invest small amount then go for own hosting and domain and start working you will learn everything step by step.

There are lots of e-books on internet written about SEO other than collecting one or two ideas from here and there better if you can read one of those, because SEO is some what big to study so quickly.

There are a lot of self-made SEOs, but you'll have to polish up on your knowledge if you want to go anywhere. My advice is to do lots and lots of reading.
