Hey I want to pursue web design or something to do with computer when I graduate high school. Question is where would I learn how to do all this stuff? I mean I REALLY want to go to college because both my parents went and they're pushing me towards there. How did you guys learn? Did any of you go to college to learn web design?

I took Graphic Design in collaege for 3 years. There was a big focus on design for print and we didnt do much web design. A lot of web stuff I learned on my own, building my own projects and websites. I am very glad that I do have a solid background in Graphic Design though, because I learned a great deal of attention to detail and I build websites with a lot of focus on aesthetics.

I learned by playing with Photoshop and building websites myself. If you want to get started, make a layout and then try to build it with HTML and CSS. Go from there.

College won't teach you anything about web design. You'd be better off downloading a free HTML editor and graphics program. Try Bluefish and GIMP. It may take a few months to get good at it, but that's part of the fun! :)

Get photoshop and do some good web layout tutorials, try to be creative and all. After you've done that, visit w3schools to learn xHTML and CSS.
Learning these two will be the hardest thing, due to the browser compatibility, but after you've master that you can call yourself a web designer, still, remember that web design is 60-70% in design (that means a lot of photoshop work), and coding is relatively easy.

I'd only recommend Photoshop if it can't be done with a free or cheaper graphics editor that's easy to use. For someone just starting out, Photoshop can be overwhelming and may not be needed at all depending on what they're doing.

If you're curious, I'd recommend googling a few tutorials and mastering the basics. It all depends what you want to do, is it just the design stages or is it coding or both? Either way, a few good googles will see you right, and if you're not a fan of scrolling to learn, then consider investing in a few books. The last thing to do is just play with the software you're going to use (mostly WYSIWIG editors and graphic editing programs like photoshop)
