Google's search results crappy. What say you?

Am I the only one who believes Google search results are turning crappy? I've been noticing that for the last 6 months. The majority of the time I can't find S&*#$ on first page unless I use quotes. Barely any relevance; just big ass sites, walmart, home depot, this and that. I can't imagine grannies and blondies using quotes. Yahoo gives me better results.

There are sites that I had bookmarked which titles I search on Google, even with quotes, and they don't come up even though the sites' pages exist for God's sake! Facebook needs to seize this opportunity and move in. Latest news is that FB surpassed Google in traffic. They are buying datacenters all over and hiring Google's engineers so something must be cooking. If I were sergei and brin I would really be afraid of that quiet guy, Mark. I'd say FB will kill Google within the next 3 years.

Damn man.. Your from 2005 and your talking like a newbie here.

Facebook and Google are completely different things and each of them is a pioneer in their own fields.

The quality of search results depend alot on the keyword.

Lighten up. I'm aware of that and I have been around that road already in other discussions. Of course they are two different businesses. Facebook gets more traffic than Google and the people stay there all the time. All they need is a GOOD search engine and Google is history! That's the main things you need, the people and GOOD search engine. They have the dough and could get it on a heart beat if they ever needed it. Mark has hinted in the past of going the search engine route. He doesn't seem stupid to me. He knows FB has only a few years left (Myspace? what is that?).

If you've followed FB's news for the last 2 years, you would know Google has a lot to worry about. For God's sake, Google boys were not too happy once they found out FB was opening a datacenter in Oregon recently and stole some of their best employees!

Wow, that seems to be an interesting news. Google's employees joining facebook, what it would be for money or something else ?
As already google gives a lot of facilities to their employees.

I agree, Google made some bad algorithm decisions over the past year or so because the search quality just sucks now.

For instance, go to Google and type in "mobile blackjack" and you will find this site on the first page (been there for quite a long time) rather than one of my 100 page sites: http://mobileblackjack.org/

This is just one example out of many that I noticed. Not to mention a few of my 100 page niche sites not getting a single visitor from Google while getting a ton from Yahoo, Bing and Ask.com. I'm not just saying that because my own sites don't rank (even though I have high quality sites that I know should be ranking), but even doing my own personal searches are just bring up crap results. Yahoo has been taking the crown lately in terms of quality search traffic.

I don't think that you can use the fact that sometime in the past you bookmarked a site and therefore it should be found today on Google, with or without quotes.

If you gave us some specific examples of popular, trusted sites that should appear for obvious keywords and don't actually appear, then your comments might be a bit more legitimate. Overall, I agree with others that G SERPs are not perfect but they are far better than Y!. I think they are also somewhat better than Bing.

My searches work fine.... must be user error :)

Seriosly though, i am able to find exactly what i want just fine - if you are getting spammy sites returned on your searches surely that indicates a niche that is begging to be exploited?

LOL! oh dear...... frustration or not - ill take $1000 your wrong.

The Google love is all over, isn't it? :) I don't find spammy results. I just find big ass sites like Walmart and other "trusted", high page rank sites with thin useless and irrelevant pages at the top.

Wait for the FB's "Here is my search engine" news and you'll see Google scrambling trying to sell youtube and tons of their buggy applications. A Truckload of Peptobismol would not be enough to settle them stomachs at Google HQ. We'll see a better Google, without the attitude then. Now they want your site to be fast or sink in rankings. Before they were telling Adword advertisers how to run their businesses and how to structure their pages and other unheard of crap or pay a ton of money. They are way too powerful and abusive and need to be stopped. There is not a good competitor to go to.

Google result may not perfect for some certain keywords. But it does not matter if "common peoples" do think Google is the best. You should be aware that us, webmaster or programmer or any website related job fields, are only 2-5% of the total internet users around the globe. You would see how popular of Google, even many Hollywood movies do refer to Google for something related. The recent one I saw is "Green Zone".

Google can generate revenues as long as their strong branding is that strong enough. Google does care on webmaster but they do care more on common peoples and global market.

Apart from this I would saying Bing is another good alternative way of Google while Yahoo is still suck all the times. I do think Yahoo is a dinosaur while other competitors do keep going far and far away beyond them. Have you ever tried Entireweb, the new search engine yet? Their results are still much better compared to Yahoo. lol

Google results can be manipulated easily when compared to Yahoo and Bing.
