I know keyword research is really important when your writing your articles, but how many do you like to write on a certain topic? Do you write a certain number for the same keyword and submit them or is it better to pick many different keywords and write 1 to 2 articles about each? Any help would be appreciated.
Compile a list of at least 25 or more keywords and write one article per keyword. That's what I've found to work exceptionally well.
Agreed, and when you find the 5 out of that which really get traffic for you and really convert then focus more on these keywords, or longer tail variations of these keywords for another batch perhaps.
Thanks for the help, Also another question: Out of those 25 articles how many sales do you expect to get?
Hard to say, depends on the volume that these long tails would bring you. The longer the tail, the less traffic it is going to be, and then you have to remember that a "view" on your article does not translate to a click on your hoplink. If they are really long tails, then 1 to 2 sales a day would be good, but not likely without some time and link building to them.
Also I have mostly used Ezine articles but have just recently put a few articles on Articlesbase.com (which I like because of fast approval), but just wondering what some of you others might use.. Also when linkbuilding your articles is blog commenting enough? and how long before you usually see results from backling your articles?
You want to diversify onto different platforms, just in case you were ever to get banned from one site. You can also treat 2.0s, like Hubpages and Squidoo, like you would an article site. You want to build your own sites too, because as you can see, there is a sufficient amount of advertising around your articles at Ezine. Additionally, as you build more and more links to your articles, you are working for Ezine(and yourself as you make those sales, but you have no control of that article.) Blog commenting is somewhat tricky, because remember, these comments must be approved before they give you juice. You want to incorporate link building that is more consistent, like building 2.0s. You know those links will register as soon as you publish those sites. Try to have your own domain that goes to a real, authority site, in those articles and 2.0s, don't just redirect those domains to your hop.
Personally I use ArticlesBase as my main directory and submit to other directories in order to obtain a backlink to my AB article as well as links to my landing page. I have never used blog commenting as a way to build backlinks. I just don't think it's very effective. I use other article directories, web 2.0 profiles and blogs for the most part. Occasionally I'll use sites such as Squidoo and Hubpages but with their recent moves against affiliates I haven't really used them much. And I still see great results from my efforts.
I use Squidoo a good bit and rank well for my keywords in yahoo.. What moves are they making against affiliates?
i dont write, i let write (OK, occasionally i write some myself too) In my opionion, good keyword research is more important than number of articles - BUT you need to keep submitting article each and any week. But submitting 10, 20 PER DAY is nonsense in my opinion.
Agreed, I would say 10 a week that are well wrote, keyworded and linked correctly are better. Why force yourself into instant gratification sales when you can build long lasting articles that give you continuous income?
Cool, thats really what I want is long term, I am starting with small goals but its hard to see if I am doing the right things when it takes so long to start getting traffic.. So its good to hear it from others that have prior experience to doing this. I have some decent articles already published and some squido lenses getting some traffic so i am going to keep link builoading those and also start preparing keywords and articles for some other products while I shoot for my next goals..
Auburn to answer your question about Squidoo.. They've really been cracking down on lenses the promote sites that include any sort of affiliate links in them. I've seen many lenses be locked. I have yet to experience it myself but I know of several others who have. But it's really not much of a downer. As far as articles go, I'd agree that you should put out decent quality articles that are backlinked very well for the best results. While it does take a bit of time for articles to settle into decent search engine positions, once they do you'll be seeing sales roll in constantly rather than relying on a burst of traffic that is supplied by writing 15+ articles every single day. As they say in so many industries.. work smart, not hard.
Hi, so can I ask if you backlink to each and every article from other directories back to Articlebase? Let's say if I have 25 articles in Articlebase, I go to another article directory (eg: articlealley) and create another 25 articles, then all the articles are linked back to Articlebase? Is that the correct way of doing? Do you see a good results in ranking?
Just wanted to say to everyone who's contributed to this thread thank you there's a lot of great info on here. I've read my fair share of other threads which eventually get hijacked, but again, I just wanted to say thanks. I've been doing AM for awhile now, but it hasn't turned out that well. If someone would like to explain a good way to do keyword research I would appreciate it. I've seen a few videos but they generally are trying to sell you something so it doesn't work as well as they claim. I understand work is involved, and thats fine by me, just please lead me in the right direction
I've found that most of the automated tools are not that great at keyword research. What I mean by this is that they are ok for getting some numbers on the keywords like: Searches, inurl competition, intitle competition and the like, but you can't count on Google Keyword Tool, Market Samurai or any other tool to come up with golden phrases. I think it's best to use your own brain and come up with keywords that you would imagine would actually get searched. Then if you run them trough google, you get the 'autocomplete' feature which can be great or you can check the related searches in the bottom of the screen. Then maybe run those new keywords you found trough the keyword tool, get a few more, think about them, put in google again and repeat. Push button keyword research does not work imo. Yahoo answers are also good for keyword research for long tail phrases, since those are questions that actually get asked.
That's the idea. Just make sure that the articles you point at your main articles (ArticlesBase ones) have keyword targeted anchor text. I'd submit them to at least 5 directories other than AB and make sure they are just a bit re-written. I usually re-write the first 2 sentences in each paragraph. But everyone has their own way of doing it. And yes, I see great ranking results when using that combined with all the other back links that I build to my articles.
Thks for the great info! It really helps! Another question, when you say you submit to another 5 directories, do you linkwheel, or all 5 directories pointed back to AB? Thanks again!
Personally I make all other directories point back to my AB article. I know some people form these link wheels but I never have and it works great for me.
