Isn't the real number that matters the eCPM? Gauging the profitability of a site per 1000 impressions seems more accurate than the RPC. With Adsense I was making only a few cents per click, but my eCPM was over $3... with YPN I am making 10-20x what I was with Adsense per click but my eCPM is only around $1. I'd rather take the higher eCPM than a high RPC any day.
The real number that matters is not the CTR, the RPC, or the eCPM its the daily total revenue. If you make more money with Adsense then YPN, switch back to Adsense, if not stick with YPN.
I was doing $200+/day for several months with YPN, then last month it was a struggle to do $100. My sites were getting filled up with "kids videos" ads that weren't getting clicks and rpc was like 14 cents. SO, I started experimenting. What I found was the ad targeting is not really working very well, nor is the ad blocking feature. No matter what category I chose it didn't change the ads. Then, I decided to delete everything from the system and start over. PRESTO! CTR and RPC went back up to July numbers. We'll see if it stays.
I moved a lot of my smaller sites back to Adsense. Results? Sites that had started to see .03 - .10 clicks on YPN are now getting me .25 - .98 per click. I'm happy switching most of sites back, because on top of the PPC being better, the CTR is alarmingly better on AS.
so you removed both targeting and blocking and your #'s went back up? please let me know if the trend continues as i am down 30% and using both blocking and targeting - thx
