Did you back up your hard drive?

A friend of mine just lost their main drive. Nothing backed up. The awesome drivesavers were able to get 97% recovery - and were' talking several years professional work here... but at the cost of.... over $2500.

Most people only learn to back up, it seems, after the first major catastrophe. Trust me, hard drives can crap out any time.

Did you back up your hard drive?

 

I did backup my hard drive every saturday. I backup all my documents and photos in USB Flash disk and occasionally i also backup my data to my other computer and also burn it in CDRs or DVDRs.

 

I never backed up my hard drive once in my life,

There's no point , You be careful with your computer and nothing will break,

You just need to watch out and make sure you're protected.

Correct. I do keep my backups on a portable Drive.

You cant lose hardwork. Its too boring to recreate something when you can save it on another drive. I remember losing $500 PSD layouts and scripts. If only I had purchased $150 portable drive.

But I dont think ppl who dont have anything else than Movies and Songs + games will understand it. Its about being professional.

Kids will be kids.

 

I rarely back up my drive. I hate burning all the files to disc, but I should start doing that.

 

I do not backup whole hard drive, but I always keep another copy of my important data in a flash drive..

 

I usually backup important stuff into cloud storage services like Dropbox. They have over 4 million Dropbox users!

 

I try to keep the most important files on a different hard drive.

 

I think i last backed up my hard drive in November/ december last year. I think its time to back up again..

 

I don't back-up my data on my personal computer most of the time unless it is important files. I am pretty good with computers, and like ETERN1TY said if you treat your stuff with care, and don't go crazy than your fine. I've had my hard drives in my computer since I was 16 im 18 now, and they both got 1.2 years running time. No weird noises or anything I do have a 1TB external drive, but seldom use it as a "back-up", but do from time to time when I do a "clean out" move files into a "Junk" or "Old files" folder from time to time. It is amazing what you will find when you look through them.

 

I rarely backup, but when I do; its usually only major data I need to keep. A lot of my daily needed stuff is online though...gotta love cloud computing.

 

$2500? That is a lot. I do backup my important files, but I backup them in pendrives. My friend said cheap pendrive corrupts easily so it is not safe too.

 

I think this can be a good strategy as well :
1) backup your main Hard disk to an external HD
2) backup the most important files from the external HD to another HD
3) last, to be sure backup the most most important files into a DVD (and move those dvds in another places!)
But, it takes time...
So I'm using only the action of first point..
You can even use online storage system (like Amazon), but I've never used them.

 

I didn't, and then in the course of using a cheaply made SATA to IDE adapter whose power wiring turned out to be backwards, my drive's PCB got fried. Fortunately, because only the circuit board was dead and not the actual drive mechanisms, I was able to pay someone I found online $250 to transfer the data to a new drive. I use backup software now though.

 

I perform a weekly backup of my important documents only. Like, paid scripts, paid fonts and my designs.
A 8GB USB Flash Drive is more than enough for that.
